Dell (Huntkey) PSU randomly shuts off/won't power on.

Hi guys, been awhile since I've posted here but currently I'm at a loss. I have a Dell Dell 6GXM0 / Hunkey HU460AM-00. It has all crap branded caps but none are bad. Large output coil is getting...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Free 24k btu, 220v ac with the remote and all working perfectly. The power cord is 12 gauge, absolutely mad.

Edit: Oh yeah, it's filthy because it was in a shed for awhile, stored right side up so...

Re: Sabine Graphi-Q Holy Shorts, Batman!

Update: There was a confession to why it failed. It was sandwiched between two power amps, pure class A, audiophile grade with tubes inside. It was subjected to the 180F heat of both for days on end....

Re: Sabine Graphi-Q Holy Shorts, Batman!

Nope. It was in service years ago and stopped working. My dad is an audio engineer and was using it in his studio. Literally the thing quit while it was being used, Sabine wanted 500$ just to look at...

Re: Sabine Graphi-Q Holy Shorts, Batman!

Removed them just now. Thing powers on, except C24 has gone up in smoke. No idea the value at all. Lit up red hot and then went out as the output relays click on. I checked the cap on the other chip...

Sabine Graphi-Q Holy Shorts, Batman!

So my dad has had this Sabine Graphi-Q for years and could never repair it as it's way above his head. Well, I went into it and found two things, the DIGITAL power in rail for the MC3310-KS chips was...

Some Good News: YEC No Longer Makes Electrolytic Capacitors

It is as the title says! They no longer make electrolytic capacitors. Instead, they make supercapacitors. Don't believe me? Visit their website, they pulled their datasheets and don't offer them....

Re: Samsung DLP primaries...in series?

Found Wurth in many an audio circuit. They're good in my book, never seen them fail before. However, in your situation I think it might be alright to get a higher voltage cap, as that can add ripple...

Re: Fixing a Battery Maintainer

No, those are lot codes. G-Luxon brands their caps by putting a two letter combination before the temperature rating. Take the TW series for example, it will look like "TW 105C". You'll find...

Re: OBH Nordica DC adapter

By what you're telling us, the adapter works, then you power it down and it stops working completely again.

I'm not sure what you mean by,

However, I think you mean the zener diode there is...

Re: I found the bad cap, looking at replacements

All those caps are fake Chongx or Chengx caps. The print is wrong, there is no series denotation and there is no lot number. They're blatant fakes. I've found fake ChengX/ChongX etc in many power...

Re: Say you got a free PSU from outside... and it was raining

I got my daily driver PSU outside, and in the rain!

My DD PSU is a Corsair HX750. I know, not something you find every day.

What was wrong with it? Well, it's problems didn't show until 2...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

>2 layers of tape between primary and secondary

That tape is 600V insulation rated (from decent brands at least). That means it's got 1000v of isolation. That would fail EU standards so fast due...

Re: EcoSmart 5csbr650stq1d03

1k @ 370V-ish from two caps being put in series in a voltage doubler circuit, that'll flow about 250-400mA. That's 100W. That's a very nice spark.

It's either that or my screwdriver :P. I should...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Out of curiosity, can you crack open that transformer? It looks half decent for an overall shit power supply.

Re: EcoSmart 5csbr650stq1d03

Oh yeah, I have two 560Ohm resistors in series for discharging. Now before you say it, yes, it makes large sparks but I don't have the patience to wait 10 seconds for a cap to decharge (either that...

What solder would you recommend for this?

Going to be soldering a joint that needs to flow 80-100A at 12v. Is standard leaded solder good for this?

Oh bah, I didn't give a shit about these LEDs. The lamp was dead and I'm never going to use them again, I smashed the lamps case to get it open. I'm going to try some of those Sylvania bulbs as they...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

That is in fact, a fake Ymin. The vent is wrong, and it's pushed in. That's the #1 sign of a fake cap, the vent. That's a common cheapo way of putting a vent on a crap cap. They use a punching...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Yeah, Huntkey was BestBuy's house brand right? I know currently Insignia is, and they are still using the same OEM from ages ago, still using fCon cabps in them. I know they aren't all fCon now...

Re: EcoSmart 5csbr650stq1d03 LED light

R1 is what failed. If there were two, they probably wouldn't have had this problem.

Re: EcoSmart 5csbr650stq1d03

Haha, I thought the same when I used some 23 year old Nichicon PL's I had. They seemed to work fine though for the month or two that I used them for :P

Anyways, I tested the LEDs on the board of...
