Well, it depends on what model it is, DC, DE or FD.
There seems to be three different touchpads available for it: Alps, Synaptics or Elan.
Should be possible to figure out by looking at the device...

What I suspect happening is the addon we use to auto-resize images is somehow interfering.

Check for contamination inside the jacks for the cables.
If memory serves me right there is an optical sensor there.
So if there is dirt in the ampere jack it will cause this message...

They are tested at higher frequencies, and to achieve those they are built better with each revision.

The Zener diode might be ok, the transistor tester can only output a low voltage, because it's powered by a 9v battery.
Try using a bench power supply to test it, plenty of tutorials available on...
