Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored a free PC with interesting specs:

PSU: Torrent LC-8400BTX - kinda weird considering board doesn't have SATA
Mobo: MSI 845 Pro - Socket 423!!!!!!
CPU: unknown, probably a Pentium 4, since...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Free ASUS P5QD Turbo - P45 chipset, J-Micron 361 + Sillicon Image SIL5723.

Looks nice, was just dusty. Has EPS12V connector, a jumper named OV_CPU (which I can either describe as overclock),...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yeah, it's good. Apparently the charging circuit didn't like the battery at first as the cells weren't active. Placing it into another PSP (a 3004) I have must've reactivated the cells as after...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored a PSP model 1004 (phat) for $7. Case is quite cracked, battery for some reason won't charge on it (works on a 3004 I have tho) but otherwise it works fine. I removed the UMD drive since I...

Re: Shuttle XPC SD30G2B (FD30 motherboard)

I feel like the 0652 OSTs are fake. Most RLP I've seen in that size were either Blue/Gold and Black/Gold, while these are green.

Cache chips stay quite cold, and I've already replaced the caps (three caps lol, one 1000uF 10v and two 220uF 10v)

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

It's a AEI/Chicony TK-8498F.

I managed to get some beeps this morning, although nothing much than that. They're unusual for AMI BIOS - they're low in tone, while AMI BIOS uses a higher tone.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Got a free 486 motherboard I can't for the life of me identify (UMC UM8498F, 4x ISA, 3x VLB, 72pin SIMM) with removed cache slots (I think I have some old boards I could remove the sockets from :) )...

Re: Bypassing Passive PFC In ATX Power Supplies

You MIGHT experience slight bulging on some PSUs. YMMV depending on how good was the PSU built.

The one I fixed in that thread you mentioned managed to somehow make a Hitachi HP3 cap (820uF 200v...

Re: Archivo bin de Gigabyte h61m-ds2 rev 1.2 bios

As far as I can understand (even though I haven't learnt a lot of Spanish) is he has a GB H61M-DS2 board that powers up for 3 seconds and then shuts down, and that he said the problem is the BIOS...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I am beginning to think I'm starting to drown in PS3s :lolsign:

Just scored a PS3 phat CECHG04, complete with HDMI, AC cable and a controller for $19.26 (80RON).

Also got a EpoX EP-9NPA7I for...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Panny in EVERY corner of the board on the A8V. I looked hard enough and couldn't spot any other cap brand.

BTW I was talking about the PSU caps :) Even though it's a L&C, it seems it was pretty...

Re: Ps3 shutting down

A dead fan will probably just trigger the "PS3 overheated, turn off and let it cool down" message and then power off shortly after.

To OP - as momaka said, post the model number. I may be able to...

Re: Need help with Shuttle SB83G5A - fans spin but that's all

Blasting them with 350*C or higher probably fixed both the underfill and the substrate, making them connect again. I don't know exactly, but I can tell you that it usually worked first try. One of...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Got a free ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ w/ a Athlon 64 x2 3600+, some 10/100 NIC that looks like a RTL8139 clone, a TEAC DVD-RW and a Titan TFD-8025H12C fan that I have to solder some wires on.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Probably keep it around and make a wall of the fallen. (dead stuff)

I already have a bunch of dead stuff that could make it there - a HD5770 (shorted core), the aforementioned WD10EALX, a dead...

Re: Need help with Shuttle SB83G5A - fans spin but that's all

I usually blast stuff right away at 350*C when I reflow (using a automotive heatgun) and have had lots of success (2 PS3s, a Geforce 7600GT 256MB PCI-E, a 9800GT, a 7900GS and the list can continue)...

Re: gigbyte h61m s2pv 2.2

Not always. My H55M-S2V would simply power on for 2 seconds then stop and repeat the cycle.

Later found out two of the VRM fets were kill (there was visible soot on both of them, and also both...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Another free WD, also dead - WD10EALX 1TB.

This one did spin up once, sounding like a angle grinder, ironically did seek once but started clicking when mobo (MSI G41M-P26, nice little DDR3-based...
