Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

It came from a Pentium II Machine btw. The owner brought it in last week saying he hadn't used it for a while and just needed his data saved off it.

Re: Help with ASUS K8V SE Deluxe

For the handful of AM3 system's I've built, I used MSI boards in all of them, and not one has a cooked VRM. In fact, the VRMs don't even get that hot in them. Based on my experience, I'll happily...

Re: is it worth recapping this psu? fsp amacrox speedpower 500w with pics

+1. Definitely worth recapping. The cap failures that these sometimes get are 100% the fault of the caps. The design itself is actually fairly capable.

Re: Reballing Toshiba L500D

Nah, that was with the stock BIOS and a Pentium T4200 CPU. You don't need to update the BIOS to run 7 at all.

We just sold one for $200 (AUD) at work recently, although we upgraded it to windows 7 (with a proper COA and the like).

If you sell it running Vista? Zip. You can't even give a vista or XP...

Re: HD 2000 vs Ati HD 6450 for Flash player!

^
No. The amount of memory on the graphics card has no impact on performance (at least not once you get above about 128MB). It's all down to the GPU.

Re: HELP! Strangest HW problem I have seen since the 8-Bit days.

Read the post first.

As for the shutting off problem, though, I have no idea. I've never seen or heard of it. The only other thing I can think of is trying a new CPU. What brand and model is...

Re: Help with ASUS K8V SE Deluxe

Their early s478 and earlier boards were pretty decent, but they completely dropped the ball when s775 came out. Even their premium boards have ben junk since then. I class them as being about on par...

Re: 24in LG mo PSU/board. Bad caps or Bad board

The picture doesn't look any fuzzier than the bezel in that photo. Are you sure that the resolution is set correctly?

I've found this before with a couple of CPUs. They were listed as being new, but there was an obvious round ring where the cooler had been installed and making contact. Their excuse was that they...

Re: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium re-cap questions

It may be the caps, but it may also be the chipset. Nvidia chipsets from this era are all affected by what is known as the 'bumpgate' defect (essentially, where the chip's substrate material melts at...

Re: hiiii need bios these desktop motherboard

These bios file requests are actually quite annoying IMO. Not only do they usually get posted in the wrong section, but the ID-10-T 'techs' who ask for them clearly have no idea that they are...

Don't be surprised if the chipset fails on that board soon. There are known manufacturing flaws and defects with ALL nvidia GPUs and chipsets from that era (you can google 'bumpgate' to find out...

What I've been lead to believe is that the half-capacitance when poly-modding rule only applies blanketly to the CPU VRM and other similar DC-DC conversion circuits on the motherboard. I haven't...

Re: Zotac mainboard needs PSU with 8-pin mobo connector

Depends on the CPU. Something such as an E6600 does not need an 8-pin connector to power it, regardless of what motherboard it's installed in. With an OC'd 125W CPU, though (Core 2 Extreme for...

Re: Zotac mainboard needs PSU with 8-pin mobo connector

It would probably work too, but I prefer to avoid using adapters where possible in favour of a PSU which has all of the required connectors

Re: Zotac mainboard needs PSU with 8-pin mobo connector

I had an Intel D975XBX2 which would refuse to POST if you used a 4-pin CPU connector. The majority of motherboards, though, will work fine with only 4 pins connected.

The thing is, though,...

Re: I've just lost all confidence in EVGA PSUs

I meant the idle wattage (ie, what it will see most of the time). Even with something like a GTX970 or 980 (which you would want a 500-550W for when under load), the idle wattage will still be...
