Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

Glad to hear the C3 fix worked for you! Per Hansson is going to edit the 1st post of this thread to add a little bit of clarity that has been realized over the almost 9 years that this thread has...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

I looked at a picture of the board by googling the PN and finding it on a repair parts site. Its probably C6 or C7. Those two are on the secondary (low voltage) side of the power supply. The board...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

It is difficult to say just looking at that picture. But your symptoms suggest that it is a bad capacitor problem causing the display to fade. If you could post a better picture of your actual board,...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

Yes it could be bad. C3 (68uf) on these boards is what drives the VFD and causes the fade out. It is usually the only one that is bad. Try replacing it again. If you have a multimeter with a...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

It seems like you are back where you started. In your 4th picture, it looks like you circled a bad solder joint. You might want to go over the whole board again looking for more of them.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

Did your display fade out gradually or suddenly? Post some pictures of the board.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

I looked at your post again you say the the P/N is 71001799R.... That is the same as mine but without the 'R'. I am going to take a WAG and say that the 'R' means 'Refurbished'. So do what you will,...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

No, 68uf is what was there originally in C3. The board in your pictures was refurbished by someone other than the factory that made it. The cheapo cap and resistor job screams this fact. If you look...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

This has been seen on other refurbished boards: (http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=367940&postcount=126)

The resistor is a crutch. Remove both the resistor and capacitor replace with a...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

I can't really tell from the pictures. But usually these things are made to snap together quickly on an assembly line. Is it possible that the tabs on both ends are what is holding the board down?

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

There was another one a while back in this thread that was a reconditioned part and had a resistor in line with the capacitor. Does it look like this?

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

You should probably just wait and put the 68uf in position C3.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

Damn. If I were going to 'refurbish' things in that manner, I sure wouldn't want to take credit for my work. Much less have it traceable with that fancy 'refurbished' sticker.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

You should be good replacing just the 68uf cap. I was talking to my uncle over the Christmas holiday and he mentioned that he had recently fixed his oven clock also. I asked if it had faded out and...

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

The solder joint on the other side of the capacitor doesn't look too good either. You might want to touch it up too. Hopefully doing that will bring life back to your clock.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

Post some pictures. It may be possible to see what is wrong. Also double check the obvious things like making sure the connectors are all securely connected and oriented in the right direction.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven

@P10292: In this case FC and FM should work the same.

@marcottefamily: You should verify that all the connectors were re-installed properly. If it still won't work, post some pictures of both...
