seems like backlights, backlight testers are pretty handy, around 20 bucks on ebay or amazon.

you probably already did, can test for voltage going in and coming out of tcon.

maybe check voltages of tcon, VDD, VGH, VGL, VCOM.

If you can bring up a menu, see if it also effects the menu display.

maybe test the little caps on panel driver board for shorts or low ohms.

make sure cables to tcon are clean aligned well and not loose fitting, and maybe test tcon voltages to make sure they're everything they should be.

Could be a bad capacitor/s the electrolytic caps are usually the ones that go first, can be bad and not be bulging.

looks like the caps are not holding up, if I wanted to do the least, I would replace the what is it 4 1000 uf 25 volt caps, with 1000 uf 50 volt and see what happens, I suspect they were using cheap...

also trying to figure this turd out, have some of the usual bad winbond chip symptoms, tv won't tune channels, remote turns on blue led on front but doesn't change channels or anything, button board...

yes the one that's shorted can be hard to find without a milliohm meter, I find that a lot of times it's one of the end ones.
