Question Pegatron M2N78-LA (rev. 3.02) freezes on POST with SATA drives attached

Like the title says, I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA (HP P/N: 513430-002) motherboard out of an HP Pavilion PC. The motherboard hard-locks during POST when it gets to the part of trying to detect the SATA...

Re: DELL Precision 490 Motherboard RAM issue

That's OK. As long as you soldered the new caps well on there and preferably with as short leads as possible. But more importantly, make sure electrolyte didn't leak from the old caps on the board...

Re: ASUS P5GC-MX - No memory, no boot

Give me a day or two, and I'll try to make you a diagram with the rails.

In general, though, that bigger toroid/inductor by the RAM slots is your RAM V_dd/V_ddq rail... or sometimes called V_dimm...

Re: Windows XP EoL Security Rollup...or similar?

You can... with the latest/last Firefox ESR (52.9, if I'm not mistaken.) But since that is also rather outdated now, there are indeed a few web pages that don't work correctly. For the most part,...

Re: Windows XP EoL Security Rollup...or similar?

Hi! :D

Yes, it's slow to browse modern web on a P4 machine today. At least mine (still main PC) is somewhat newer P4 with Prescott HT CPU (that good ol' Optiplex 170L.)

Anyways, all I can say...

Re: Another custom C(r)apXon in FSP unit!!

Well, fortunately I don't have any Su'scon caps in stock (not new anyways... and the old ones I have are for testing stuff only if they're still in spec.)

Lol, that 3D render intro was trippy -...

Re: Tech Tutorial: Choose the correct capacitors for reliable automotive applications

That's a pretty good idea.

Actually, a lot of appliances with heaters inside (like your clothes iron, for example) already have thermal switches like that. The idea is that in case the bi-metallic...

Remember, we are trying to help you troubleshoot without seeing what you're seeing exactly. So more info/details is always helpful. Pictures too, if...

Re: DELL Precision 490 Motherboard RAM issue

For contacts on RAM sticks - use pencil eraser to clean until shiny again. After this, wipe with IPA to remove any possible leftover rubber residue.

For RAM slots: IPA and toothbrush may help......

Re: AOC E2470SWHE No power

There's no APFC circuit on the PSU in the pictures shown above. So 320V is correct.

KDMPower MIPC MI-X8775CD [PCB WF-C rev:E] - the autopsy results

OK, since I do think I am going to end up fixing this PSU... first thing that needs taking care of is the blown components on the primary.

Before removing anything, though, I decided to draw a...

Re: KDMPower MIPC MI-X8775CD [PCB WF-C rev:E]

Well, you CAN build a half-bridge PSU with MOSFETs too... or probably just about any switching device, if designed accordingly. That goes for other topologies too.

Here is, for example, one...

Re: Tech Tutorial: Choose the correct capacitors for reliable automotive applications

Hey, that sounds like a new method of circuit protection. Just install a thermistor or whatever else with leaded (or maybe even low-melt temperature solder) and if it desolders itself, the device ran...

Re: What's this transformer for and how to find in on aliexpress?

^ Larger wire is OK - if you can make it all fit.
Smaller wire... will probably work too, but may not be a good idea.
Since this is not a power transformer but rather just a signal/driver...

Re: AOC E2470SWHE No power

Check big resistor R903, located next to switch IC (U901). R903 should show a low resistance. If it's open-circuit, U901 is probably bad.

Also I see an overheated ground trace between J903 and...

Re: Replacement Chemicon SMG caps

Should be fine.
I see that the picture of the PSU you showed is of the switching type. So if anything, YXG will probably do better than SMG due to having lower ESR... and also longer rated life.

Re: Another custom C(r)apXon in FSP unit!!

Lol. Talk about a cat and mouse game.

This is why I much rather work on HiPro PSUs instead. Units like this one (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=81905) are just so much easier to...

Re: Sense Adjustable Switching Power Supply ReCapped finished

Well, I don't want to sound like a negative nancy... but many of these cheaper Chinese PSUs have a lot of "unpolished" sides.

First, the PCB design looks pretty sloppy - hard to tell where the...

Re: Creality 3 printer switching power supply recapped

It is.
Classic H-bridge with KA7500. Pretty reliable when designed right.

I wouldn't trust the label worth a damn, though.
15 Amps at 24V? That's 360 Watts. Even at a super-optimistic 85%...

Re: Tech Tutorial: Choose the correct capacitors for reliable automotive applications

Very interesting find, linuxguru.

Indeed 135C -rated caps should probably soldier through a fan failure. However, if the temperatures inside the PSU start going above 100C, I suspect many of...

Re: Abit NF7-S v2 Recap - Not posting

Yeah, that one should do too.

There really are many different versions. Depending on how much you want to upgrade it, you may or may not want to get a better / pricer / more mod-friendly version....

Why not both? :D

Well, it is a legit fuse, after all. But it's one of those...
