Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

That. Is. NICE! :)

Hitachi really did make some great CRT monitors.

Are you sure it's a Trinitron tube, though? Because I have the bigger version of that: the CM814 (21"), which uses shadow...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Got a crappy beat up 15" LCD monitor from my workplace's dumpster and also a black KeyTronic PS/2 rubber dome keyboard.

The keyboard needs to be taken apart and washed/cleaned up (its quite...

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

It's just for simple reverse polarity circuit protection. That is, if I was to plug in my power supply in backwards by accident (that is negative to positive and positive to negative), the diode...

Re: Panasonic FJ/FL genuine or not?

Well, if these are not genuine caps, they are very very good counterfeits.

The print is slightly more clear on my caps, especially the negative strike. As such, the logo is a bit more clear too...

Re: Panasonic FJ/FL genuine or not?

Correction:
It's Panasonic FJ

I can't see any images in your posts. Please attach them to BCN forums, if you have any.

But yes, your caps likely are legit. What Wester547 mentioned in post...

Re: Panasonic FJ/FL genuine or not?

Just checked... and for once, my memory is serving me right. :)
My XFX Radeon HD 4670 has *one* Panasonic FL cap, and it has a black sleeve with light gray (white?) text and negative stripe. 16V,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I know!
I was so excited when I was cleaning it, as I thought about setting it up as monitor for my main rig (NOTE: this is probably one of the RARE times I consider replacing CRTs on my desk with...

Re: Panasonic FJ/FL genuine or not?

Not sure, but I would have to dig out my XFX Radeon HD 4670 video card. It has black/white/gray Panny caps on it. Though they might be FR's, I can't remember.

If I don't reply, remind me again in...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

My workplace was doing some warehouse cleaning, so I managed to save some computer stuff this and last week.

- 2x 128 GB SSDs.
Got these from a shipment from another warehouse of ours that didn't...

I really like the progress there.

Re: Geforce 6800gt VGA missing red output signal

If you can, YES.

I think only two of those are really needed to get an image, though (two of them are simply grounds.) But again, skipping the two grounds on those may deteriorate the image even...

Re: Dell U2715H no power

Looks like a buck regulator + FET IC of some sort, judging by the small inductor next to it. Perhaps try changing/checking that small electrolytic cap next to it. If it's bad, maybe that could be the...

Re: CPU Fans - Which, when, and why

More than likely you got bad fans. Or their bearings are bad if they don't spin freely.

Back in the days before fan control (i.e. fans running full tilt at 12V), certain fans were typically made...

Re: LG Xboom PK5 demo mode..probably

Would be interesting to see if that indeed solves the issue.

Hoping that someone sees this and can get a firmware dump here.

When it comes to firmware, I usually throw in the towel - but that's...

Re: The 2019 Operating System Thread

Good point.
Should definitely have those for next year's thread.

Also maybe keep the thread open for 6 months or so (or at least 3).
That should give people more time to vote so we can get a...

Re: Soldering station thoughts and guidelines

Exactly.

Though that cap between secondary ground and primary negative (-) bus should NOT be a REGULAR ceramic cap (I'm sure you know that already, ;) but just stating it for anyone else in the...

Re: Hipro D2537F3H - Teapo output capacitor replacemnt

No, that's not exactly the reason why.

Rather, on the 300W and 350W version of the PSU, the load resistor for the 12V rail is located next to the toroid coil and the first 3.3V cap. Because of the...

Re: Geforce 6800gt VGA missing red output signal

That's why I pick them up with a toothpick with a tiny bit of gel flux on it. ;)
Otherwise... yeah when they fly away, good luck finding them. For me it's even harder, as I have a thick carpet on...

Re: Geforce 6800gt VGA missing red output signal

I suppose if the part is in an inconvenient spot, then hot air might be easier to use. I haven't encountered that too many times, though - at least not on video cards and motherboards. And I actually...

Re: Geforce 6800gt VGA missing red output signal

^ Really? For SMDs with two leads only? :) Nah, I don't have the nerves for hot air for small stuff like that. Unless it's SMD with many (over 10) small pins, I don't bother with hot air. If you do...

Re: Geforce 6800gt VGA missing red output signal

You'll need a soldering iron with a sharp tip. The tip doesn't necessarily need to be small. It just needs to be sharp. Chisel and bevel-shaped tips should be easier to use over regular...

Re: Hipro D2537F3H - Teapo output capacitor replacemnt

It's there so that if you run the PSU with no load at all on the 12V rail and some (but not full) load on the 5V rail, the PSU won't loose regulation.

So it does have a purpose indeed.

However,...

Re: Hipro D2537F3H - Teapo output capacitor replacemnt

+1
And even when it doesn't, it can eat through PCB tracks and corrode terminals and leads.
I really hate this brown crap glue, though sometimes, some of it is less aggressive.

Any kind of...

Re: Hipro D2537F3H - Teapo output capacitor replacemnt

I suppose I'll chime in with my 2-cents worth of PSU recapping. :)
In particular, I think it's better to go with the Japanese caps, even if they have slightly lower capacitance, than with the Lelon...

Re: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 problem

What hard drive do you have in that system? Regular "rust-spinner"? SSD?

Not that it should matter much. I've seen both regular HDDs and SSDs both cause system BSODs and/or restarts when they...
