Re: 'lytics class action

I would do it as well, but also for another reason: feeling cheated by the price fixing itself.
I mean for my small numbers of caps bought I wont care, but for the numbers Topcat is quoting for sure...

Re: Getting into PLCs

TX and RX in serial works just like USB:
First you try it the right way: it does not work.
Then you flip it around: it does not work.
Then you flip it back: it works.

Intel has a very handy...

Re: Mitsubishi Melservo MR-J2S-100A alarm: AL.E9

The bus voltage depends on the incoming AC voltage.
If you measure 200VAC input then 280VDC bus voltage is normal.
Calculation: √2 x 200VAC = 282.8VDC.

If not and you believe you have a heat...

Re: 230VAC PSU connected to 400VAC

After checking the bridge rectifier, diodes, MOSET's, ect for shorts as budm suggested:
Replace the fuse with a 60w (or more) incandescent light bulb.
If the bulb is lit brightly and does not dim...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

You can't start a computer when you have a series light bulb for protection.
What you can do is start the PSU without a load by grounding the PS-ON signal (wire 14).
You can easily verify this with...

Re: HP LaserJet 2605DN making stripes on the paper?

Answering my own question here hoping it might help someone else.
The issue was the toners: I bought new original HP toners and the problem went away, see attached photos for comparsion!

Re: Do switches have different output distance capabilities?

I have noticed differences too, I have a link that is significantly too long at around 170m.
With my laptops built in Intel NIC I get a solid 10Mbps connections that I can saturate.
However with an...

Re: Acer AL2423W Recapped, backlight works but no display

I have now located another reason for the "no signal" message being shown while the monitor still displays a picture.
It's a firmware issue! See below quote from Acer service bulletin.
(The X241W...

Re: Help with capacitor substitution for a DVR

That is a great replacement capacitor you have found!
ESR matches well and the ripple current rating is almost 3 times better.
I must agree with stj though, very strange with ultra low ESR caps in...

Re: Help to identify SMD Zener diode

Posting this here also for future reference, it's from the datasheet.
The date code marking is B5 (May 2014) and this matches well with other components on the PCB.
The zener diode model marking is...

Re: Help to identify SMD Zener diode

Thanks, yes this is the same as I figured, it seems to match SOD-123 physically and that it infact is a Diodes Inc DDZ5V1B (5.1v Zenerdiode with 0.5w rating)
What threw me off was a Youtube video...

Help to identify SMD Zener diode

Hi, I have this Zener diode that is open.
I took pictures before desoldering it, I have attached them here.
Can anyone tell what Zener voltage this has from the markings?
I have an idea but don't...

Re: Fsp raider ra 750

From your tests it sounds like the PSU is not shorted.
It's still a good idea to use a dim light bulb tester.
It will light up the bulb if there is a short, limiting the current that goes to the...

Re: Fsp raider ra 750

I find many dead primary side caps when the PSU has APFC.
As mentioned be sure to check for shorts, commonly the PFC diodes will short when the main cap goes bad like this.
The easiest test is a...

Re: Dell D550p Not Starting

Ticking can be due to a short.
Have you checked all secondary rails to make sure they are not shorted?
Ticking can also be due to bad startup caps, check the small caps on the primary side, or just...

Re: Test relays in circuit

Just use a bench supply and feed the relay coils the required voltage at very low current.
You should hear them click and you can ohm them out with a meter at the same time.

Re: Cordless Soldering Iron - recommendations?

It's all about how the heat is conducted to the tip, see eg EEVblog #1064 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scvS2yeUH00)
I would not say it's as good but in a comparison to my 80w Weller WSP80...

Re: Vizio M50-D1 power supply dual voltage?

I can't fathom a way in which it would not be universal input.
Because of the rating of the electrolytic capacitors at 450v you can be 100% sure it uses APFC boosting.
Because those capacitors are...
