Re: Lenovo G500 : Accidentally disabled the Intel video card in modded BIOS (bricked)

I'd agree with KvnTM on removing the CMOS battery. The modded BIOS should, by default, have the Intel iGPU enabled and set to a default memory size.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Back again with another free score, a HP-Compaq NX7400 that just needs a front panel board (it's missing).

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored about 12 Acer Travelmates for free. They were all Celerons (except for about three of them which were one DDR400 based Turion and 2x DDR2 based Turions) and most were IDE. I managed to save a...

Re: Acer Aspire 6530G powers on for 7 seconds, then turns off and cycles.

Just an update, but I somewhat fixed this one.

Board was kill, so I ordered another one (same ZK3 board but older revision) and it works well, and so does the 8600M GT.

The issue itself though...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored another free Acer from a friend - Acer Aspire 5738Z - has 4GB RAM, a 320GB Seagate Momentus Thin HDD. I can see now why he gave it for free - while it works on the charger, the battery circuit...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The backstory on mine is that the surgery (6530G board in a 6930 casing) done to my laptop was done by a drunk dude :ghetto: for a poor man, and he accidentally dropped it.

Screen was smashed, as...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Keep it, you don't know when you can find parts.

I just got a free Aspire 6930 that somebody replaced the board on with a (now dud) 6530G board + Turion ZM-80 Ultra I am currently in the process...

Re: Laptop Screen Compatibility

Not really. At least my 6530G (soon to be 6930) worked fine with a 15.4 LCD but wouldn't fit into the case. Thing is you will need to match the manufacturer. In my case the shattered screen was a...

Re: Laptop Screen Compatibility

Some Acers will boot (at least 6530G did) with different size screens. My 6530G had a broken Samsung 16" CCFL panel, but plugging in a 15.4" screen worked and I had a clear picture. (main NB died on...

Re: Acer Aspire 6530G powers on for 7 seconds, then turns off and cycles.

I have revived 8400GS cards at that temperature. They still work to this day.

My trick is not letting the gun too much on them and storing them in a cold place. It takes me around a minute if we...

Re: Acer Aspire 6530G powers on for 7 seconds, then turns off and cycles.

I reflowed the card at 350*C (generic automotive heatgun from "Kaufland" market, served me well reviving a 1st generation PS3) on the cover of a dead Premier (DEER) PSU (empty of course) but it...

Re: Acer Aspire 6530G powers on for 7 seconds, then turns off and cycles.

Won't detect USB. Tried flashing but USB was not detected through Fn+Esc (specific for this model).

Acer Aspire 6530G powers on for 7 seconds, then turns off and cycles.

Hi.

Got this laptop for free with a smashed screen, successfully adapted a 15.6" CCFL screen by reusing the 16" frame and slotting in the 15.6".

However, this issue arises, even with another...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Update on the Wii and the PSone. Both are dead - Wii will just power on and do nothing else after that (black screen) and PS1 won't even output anything on screen, just lights the power LED up.

Re: Club3D HD7950 (aka R9 280) 3GB strange issue

Well, as a last resort, I might blast it with 550*C for more than 3 minutes (all caps are polys) and see if anything happens. :lolsign:

Thing is, on my card, Windows does install drivers just fine.

I already cleaned it so I could plug it in safely, sorry. Didn't think of taking a pic of it before. (I usually don't take pictures of stuff)

Re: Club3D HD7950 (aka R9 280) 3GB strange issue

Have reflowed it just today with new flux, still same thing.

Maybe miniDP works? It's the only thing I haven't tested due to no adapter.

Club3D HD7950 (aka R9 280) 3GB strange issue

As the title says, I bought a HD7950/R9 280 (they're the same card) for cheap ($16) and it exhibits a strange issue:

Plugging the card in ANY computer (I tried it with two good PSUs that had...

Re: Cheap gaming computer with Intel 975 chipset

My option would've been to just go with a G41 motherboard and 2x4GB DDR3 sticks (these can't be that expensive, right?) and you'd be set. That'd be about the cheapest you could go without having to...
