Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

All mosfets on the power side seem to be replaced. I replaced a burnt diode from the other end of the PCB, right above the core, on the PCB edge, nada. Replaced another MOSFET that looked really...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Well I do have a HD5770 that won't work with the 12v plug plugged in. Would a reflow fix that? With the 660Ti it's either a absolutely dead GK104 core or one of the VRMs responsible for powering the...

Re: Who's good with Hexidecimal?

The easiest method I came up with:

1. Download Uniflash (the one made by Rainbow)
2. Put it on a bootable DOS media (HDD would be the best given it's a old 586 board)
3. Put your BIOS file on...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Sadly that GTX660 is as dead as a brick. I tried it in 3 different boards (MSI G41M-P26, ASUS M2N-E and ABIT IP35 Pro) and none recognized the card. Also reflowed it twice, first at 350*C and the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The one DFI I have in use uses the same sound sequence as Gigabyte boards (which will do rapid short beeps if there is no RAM) and an ABIT IP35-Pro board i have also uses 1long 2 short for missing...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I did have one case of bulging KZGs in storage, but none after that. Mine happened on a MSI P965 Platinum. I recapped that thing with yellow Fujitsu polymers and things are great since then.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Actually, there's flux on the board so somebody tried to fix it but failed.

Scored today a Raidmax RX-500XT so I can test the GTX660 Ti I have. Hope it can power it up at least.

EDIT: Seems...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Varies. The 820uF ones never blew in that way. (I have a HD3450 AGP from ASUS with the same kind of caps and they haven't blown to this day)

My first thing to repair atm is that MA790GP-DS4H that...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The 7500 has no caps (they were pulled out) and the 7600 came with two Fujitsu polymers, two Rubycons and two lone low voltage KZGs that haven't been in hot areas. It's an ASUS card so that might...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Not quite. See kc8adu's post on a newer Hercules PSU.

https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=10332&postcount=83

Exact PCB as the DURO.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored another free PS3, this time it's an CECH-2504A 0C slim version. Works fine but the bluray drive is kaput. No biggie since I am using Rebug REX NoBD firmware which eliminates the need for a...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

OEM'd by Hercules (that PSU sticker looks awfully similar to the Hercules PSUs, except somebody slapped DURO on them) so should pretty much tell you it's bottom of the barrel crap.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Well, I'm not sure what to say. The RSX (GPU) stays colder than the CPU after a check with the Rebug Toolbox (I modded the PS3) as far as I've seen and the fan doesn't seem to care about the CPU...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

With a 90nm RSX that heats as much as a Prescott/Smithfield CPU, I'd go more towards the GPU itself, especially since it's based on the Geforce 7800GTX.

Also, up until Sony shifted to 65nm process...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Update on one of the YLOD-ing PS3s I got earlier:

Got one to work! It's the CECHG04 model - used a generic heatgun that only has 2 settings - 350*C and 550*C. Went to town above the RSX with it...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored a MSI P45 Neo with badcaps, which otherwise POSTs.

Needs a good cleaning, two new RAM clips and of course a good set of caps as the caps on it are pure crap - OST RLA (blue nasty buggers)...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I didn't bother with the K9N4 as it's really crappy - two DDR2 slots on a chipset that could very well support 4 DDR2 sticks (see ABIT KN9S, on the same chipset) is just something I wouldn't use. The...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

At least two or three were leaking on mine. Replaced them with Sanyos and two OSTs (I had nothing else left on hand) and it works fine now.

Also replaced CPU caps on the Jetway N2PAP-LITE. It does...

Re: Biostar N7NCG 400 v7.2

I googled it and it doesn't have a 12v 4 pin CPU connector.

BigTroll: You can measure the voltage on the places where 16v OST caps were and check the voltage going through. Most likely it's an...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
