That's a good point, this TR2 is longer as well, but, by proper placing of the power supply cables I managed not to block the fan and also not get the cable crushed by the backend of the CD-ROM...

Right.

I suspect 'out there' on the 14 kV riser off the main 3-phase things are a lot 'cleaner' so to speak; however, it isn't true here near the end of a long residential spur feeder off that...

I don't quite understand ... but, the issue with the flat-topped mains remains today (see posted image above, for instance), and was not due to the 'arcing' across an 1" air gap on an un-used circuit...

I should add, I try to verify proper test equipment operation by either verifying with another instrument - or by cross checking with another type of instrument (perhaps a PC based scope or spectrum...

Braid, properly fluxed, works pretty darn good ... sometimes a little excess flux-core solder that is applied just for the flux content works well too with braid that isn't fluxed ... but not as well...

As part of the investigation into this issue, I opened up the Dell OEM PSU that was part of this GX270 and found several swollen caps and one leaker (on top, in the middle of the 'X') ... will...
