Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Why put so much effort in, just to use Fuhjyyu and Teapo? Sad.

Re: The ghetto mod thread

I haven't seen any that fancy.

Mine would possibly drip if I used it sufficiently, but I don't do much with it.

I did have an awfully cheap ($1) one before, which fell apart. I pulled the...

Re: Swapping japanese/generic electrolythics with solid-states

Nobody ever found a datasheet for FL. It was likely only given to motherboard OEMs. I believe they would be ultra low ESR given their typical usage.

Your tester I think is accurate enough if...

Re: Swapping japanese/generic electrolythics with solid-states

Well, the datasheet for MBZ says a 1500uF 6.3v part in 10x12.5mm size should have an ESR of no more than 0.026 Ohm @ 20C/100kHz.

Now, if your ESR test is at the same frequency and temperature,...

Re: Sceptre X505BV-FMDR

Suffix is often for the package type or denotes lead-free versions etc, but could be anything else as well, like voltage range or temperature. Without a datasheet it's hard to say.

I think some of...

Re: motherboard damaged near gpu

Photos would be useful. Solder vs wire wouldn't be a problem, bridged traces is more likely.

There may be damage to internal layers though, if the scratches are deep enough

Re: Replacing unknown NTC Thermistor in Corsair CX400

Indeed, there is certainly no relay and I've not seen a Triac in there either.

Re: Replacing unknown NTC Thermistor in Corsair CX400

I had a look at this again yesterday, after being annoyed by it and leaving it in a corner.

The design is such that the primary filter capacitor is initially charged via a diode direct from the...

Re: Altec MX6021

Can you post photos showing these parts especially C25?

You can't test capacitors in diode test mode except for a short so the results are meaningless.

Re: Help an untrained ear to identify this sound? (unplugging a Hiper Type-R 480W)

For lifted pads on "easy" boards, you can usually fix them by just scraping off some solder-mask on the track with a sharp blade (don't push too hard!), bending the component lead over, and soldering...

Re: Help an untrained ear to identify this sound? (unplugging a Hiper Type-R 480W)

Have you confirmed that the short-circuit reading across the 5vSB output is now gone?
Did you be sure to put the diodes in the correct way around?
Did you check for solder bridges?

Can you post...

Re: Buying custom crystals...

Sorry to say it but you'll have to get used to SMD sooner or later... with the right tools its not all bad though. I used to hate SMD parts too. Now they only mildly annoy me.

I actually like them...

Re: ASUS A7M266 Kills T-Bred B??

What cooks itself? The CPU or the VRM?

Maybe you've managed to short both CPUs now or the VRM controller is instead\also damaged.

Did you try the CPU in another board?

Re: ASUS A7M266 Kills T-Bred B??

So maybe you have bad VID signal to the VRM controller. I get the impression you are trying to use an unsupported CPU as well?

Re: Buying custom crystals...

That's what samples are for! It's a free test. Even if you intend on mass production there's no guarantee you're going to use the same chips you prototype with. The design can always change.

And,...

Re: Cooler Master RS-350-PSAR-13 dead

Post a photo of the underside of the board so we can find out which parts are actually in the 5vSB circuit... checking random parts blindly won't help if you don't know which circuit they're in.

I don't know but I have a USB IBM mouse that isn't detected either. Yes, I checked the cable. The LED comes on but the USB controller registers nothing. I wanted to replace the IC but it seemed...
