Re: Well. I woke up to a dead server.

Bad capacitors or other parts somewhere?
If it was on 24/7 normally, the components would stay warm and work OK.

Now you shut it down for a while, things get cold, it can't start up again.

Try...

Re: Xbox 360 caps keep failing

It's possible. Who did you buy them from, on eBay? If they were fake, it's entirely possible they have marginally too high ESR values, and after heating up a bit, their ESR drops enough that the...

Re: Help checking correct substitute for KMB2D0N60SA mosfet

I'm not sure about the pin numbering differences. Maybe when they drew the schematic they weren't sure on the component footprint they would use, and never back-annotated it after the PCB was...

Re: Xbox 360 caps keep failing

The FAQ section of this forum lists good replacements and where to get them. But you also need to compare datasheets of both original and replacement capacitors to ensure ESR and Ripple current are...

Re: Help checking correct substitute for KMB2D0N60SA mosfet

Do you have a schematic of the circuit it's used in?

Are you sure Si3208 is the correct number? I can't find that part easily.

Re: hp f2105 monitor black screen

What you could do is look on eBay etc for a universal panel driver board. That would let you use the monitor again. Though I don't know about image quality etc.

Might be cheaper than trying to...

Re: Cap id

Oh yes, the date code. That would make sense...

The leading "C" might be the voltage code, then?

Re: "Anticounterfeiting" technology

RFID tag?

Sounds hard to reverse engineer without a known working cartridge.

Re: Replacement Rifa caps for Astec PSU

The RIFA epoxy moulded ones seem to crack over time, apparently soak up moisture from the environment, short out, and catch fire.

Lots of threads about them across many electronics forums.

Re: Cap id

It's an SMD tantalum capacitor. 1uF.
Not sure of the voltage. Nothing in 9642 jumps out at me as a standard voltage. Probably you need the datasheet to find the voltage codes.

Or just guess based...

Re: hp f2105 monitor black screen

Not impossible, you could buy here: https://www.utsource.net/itm/p/4911066.html
And soldering QFP is much easier than BGA...

The problem is if it needs custom firmware, which is not loaded from...

Re: "TC:" Brand Electrolytics - Any Good?

If you just want standard capacitors, there are better, known brands, like Cornell-Dubilier, KEMET, Vishay etc. You can get them through decent distributors like Digi-Key.

But if you're talking...

Re: hp f2105 monitor black screen

Ouch. One of the voltage regulators has likely shorted, and would explain the blown fuse.

The voltage regulator failure could well have been caused by the bad capacitors.

Re: Best Cap Manufacturers on Digikey

That's because ceramics don't have the same failure modes as electrolytics, and the brand doesn't really matter.

That said, I'd trust the ceramic capacitors sold by Digi-Key over unbranded ones...

Re: Repair BGA Machine

Another question I would ask - did the people with failed BGA rework jobs preheat the board and BGA to remove moisture?

Many chips nowadays (and the PCB to an extent) are moisture-sensitive. If...

Re: Asistance required on troubleshooting Corsair CX500

If the bridge caused the capacitor to fail, it could have killed the PFC MOSFETs and controller too.

Or the PFC circuit could have a fault which caused an over-voltage condition on the capacitor....

Re: Mastech MS5308 LCR Tester

I had inaccurate readings when testing an axial ceramic capacitor on a Silicon Chip Kitset LC meter, while the same capacitor tested normally on a DMM and on a capacitance meter.

However, disc and...

Re: Forget tin whiskers, now there's .. plastic whiskers?

Yes, the heater lights, although it is quite bright for a second at power on. They are powering it from an unregulated winding in the main SMPS, so maybe it's 'normal' before the SMPS stabilises....

Re: Forget tin whiskers, now there's .. plastic whiskers?

Salt crystal build-up is probably a good explanation, actually.

The oscilloscope was inherited, I don't know its history before I ended up with it. But I can say it probably spent most of its life...

I have never actually tried the expensive Goot ones. Jaycar's cheap wick has worked well enough for me so far...
