Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored an Wintech PSU :)

It's one of those 1 heatsink designs. Bad Fuhjyyus that I could care less about as I am going to upgrade the whole PSU - EPS12v, new rectifiers, new caps (I just recently...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Couldn't edit my previous post, but the reason I put the asterisk is that the PSU is a frankenstein build - Sun Pro casing, K-Mex internals (and beefy ones at that - real ERL-39 transformer, nice...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

White/Silver with black accents. It came with blue LEDs, although I'd personally reinvent the old style with Green/Red leds :D

Stuff installed inside it:

ASRock A55M-HVS
AMD APU A4-3300 FM1...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I checked it again, and other than these two chips there's only another PCB with a SMD version of a LM339, and a L6561 on the PFC board which of course, is a power factor controller.

That 3842 IC...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

That one uses TL3842P it seems, along with a LM339. Guess it's half bridge?

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Two ceramic SMD ferrite beads. I removed them, will just clean the area in there and power it up. I wouldn't care too much since I have a ST500DM002 to fix anyways, which is SATA III (6Gbps)

On...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I did run CrystalDiskInfo on the ST31000528AS, SMART came up really clean.

The Samsung drive won't let me boot into Windows, the ST500DM002 also has BSY, amd the other two 160GBs I haven't run yet...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Further update on testing the other TR2-420NP yielded no power. I have a hunch one of the D209L switchers is dead, as it looks suspect (weird marks on it, the neighboring one is clean). There is 5vSB...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Scored some free PSUs!

2x Thermaltake TR2-420NP - both based on CWT's ISO-P450L - haven't powered any of them yet, one has bulging caps on the secondary (Fuhjyyu) and the other doesn't have any...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

It is the RAM, and pressing on it makes the artefacts go away. GPU already went through a reflow and is still kicking.

Re: L&C LC-B450E: Shorted secondary switchers?

I had one like that and I fixed mine by replacing all the rectifiers on the secondary. Not sure if the same applies here, but worth a shot.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Tomorrow's going to be quite the big day - I'm taking the FX5900 Ultra with me so I can fix it - narrowed the problem down to the first pair of BGA RAM chips next to the DVI port. It's an Leadtek...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yeah, I was pretty lucky to find one. Probably going to hunt a 9700 AIW as well, but who knows.

I wonder how good does the Radeon 9000 AIW works with DScaler.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Managed to almost revive the Winfast A380 Ultra (FX5950 Ultra) I have. So far it still shows a few lines but bending the board around a certain RAM chip makes them disappear so will need to reflow...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Well I do have a HD5770 that won't work with the 12v plug plugged in. Would a reflow fix that? With the 660Ti it's either a absolutely dead GK104 core or one of the VRMs responsible for powering the...

Re: Who's good with Hexidecimal?

The easiest method I came up with:

1. Download Uniflash (the one made by Rainbow)
2. Put it on a bootable DOS media (HDD would be the best given it's a old 586 board)
3. Put your BIOS file on...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Sadly that GTX660 is as dead as a brick. I tried it in 3 different boards (MSI G41M-P26, ASUS M2N-E and ABIT IP35 Pro) and none recognized the card. Also reflowed it twice, first at 350*C and the...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I did have one case of bulging KZGs in storage, but none after that. Mine happened on a MSI P965 Platinum. I recapped that thing with yellow Fujitsu polymers and things are great since then.
