Re: How To Stop CRT Flicker

My preferred method of stopping the flicker by throwing it out the closest window. Works every time, guaranteed.

Re: Need help choosing very quiet case fan

Fan arrived today and I just installed it. Absolutely amazing how quiet it is. Exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll be looking for a Noctua CPU fan now as well. Thanks again!

Re: Need help choosing very quiet case fan

I just ordered on from the official Noctua store on Amazon. Supposed to be here Monday. Thank you.

Need help choosing very quiet case fan

My PC case fan started squealing about a year ago, so I unplugged it and just left the case open. Now, after the recent exploding polymer cap, I'm thinking that passive cooling may not be good long...

Re: Surface mount capacitor on my desktop just exploded.

The temp virtually anywhere on the board is about 120F. Directly under the CPU it's about 144F. I don't actually have a rear case fan running either, but I keep the side panel off. That may be a...

Re: Surface mount capacitor on my desktop just exploded.

If I can get another year out of it I'll probably just replace it. I think since it's working, I'll just order the 4 polymers which went bad so I'll have them if the ones I used fail.

Re: Surface mount capacitor on my desktop just exploded.

Thank you. The machine is probably 10 years old. If I recall correct, the old HD had 46,000 hours on it. That was replaced a couple years ago with an SSD. It's a Digital Cafe IC780M-A v2.0...

Re: Surface mount capacitor on my desktop just exploded.

Probably a good thing I decided to change the other three which were parallel with the one that blew up. The worst was over 40 ohms esr. The other two were 10 and 6 ohms. Capacitance were around...

Surface mount capacitor on my desktop just exploded.

I'm not sure who jumped higher, me or the cat, but it was loud as hell. I guess it's time to recap it.

Edit: It's through hole not surface mount.

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

I'm thinking about doing that. I still have to run the circuit to where I need it, and I may not get to that for a couple weeks anyway. Pretty cool that I'm fixing this for about 4 cents.

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

I'm 100% certain it's the photo-resistor. I've tested it out of circuit and it barely changes between light and dark. Also, I've simulated it in circuit with a resistor and that makes the light work...

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

I tried cleaning it up, but no change.

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

I've been playing around with different resistances and it seems that somewhere around 33k is the tripping point. Anything above that will make it turn on.

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

It's one of those chip under blob things, so I don't have any way of knowing. The trimmer on the board is for range. Where am I measuring R?

Re: Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

New pictures below. Red circle is the LDR connections. Voltage is about 5.7v with the LDR removed.

Re: Repair side cutter

I replaced these and within a week I blew up the new pair. I needed to cut the end off a cord for a project, and accidentally cut the wrong cord. The one I cut was plugged in. Oops. Was going to...

Replacing failed photo resistor. How to determine value?

I just replaced an outdoor motion activated light for my friend and decided to troubleshoot the old one. Within a few minutes I determined the LDR(photo resistor) was bad. It only changes about 5...

Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

Checked them all. Last time some were bad, but not this time. I notice VSC is only 12v. Possibly it would be higher if I wasn't using the lightbulb limiter, but definitely still quite low.

Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

Good job! I found two bad resistors, and two more bad FGPF4633s on the Y smd Z boards, but I still have a short somewhere on the Y. I use a lightbulb in series with VS ro limit current so I don't...

Re: Plasma logic board and "Test mode"

As far as a panel test goes, I don't think it matters if your TV is PAL or NTSC. I've attached a datasheet for a model which uses that logic board. Details are on page 5.

Re: Plasma logic board and "Test mode"

They just cheaped out on putting the pin headers in. Jumper 3-4.

Re: YSUS EBR73561201 clicking off on a LG 60PV400

I'm working on the exact same board right now. I fixed it before and it worked for 6 months. Check all the RF2001 diodes . Some are attached to heat sinks, a couple aren't. When I fixed this before,...

Re: Y sustain keeps blowing FETs ? (LG)

Yeah, that's the crazy part. You replace some bad FETs, and some other ones somewhere else on the board blow. It's like how lightning never strikes twice in the same place. They certainly are...
