it's down to education.
in the past people simply knew that you dont touch metal bits when something is on!

also, people used to do risky shit a lot more.
fixing a fuse with the foil from a pack...

silver lowers the melting point, but to solder to silver plate such as peizo resonators i think you need about 5% silver.

there may not be discharge protection - ni-mh dont need it.
you can just run them into the ground and charge them just fine after.

btw, do you have a DC clamp meter??

it may have silver in it.
i noticed with my silver solder that it has a different look, like a slightly green finish in the light.

he had a chrome plated radio the other day, plug it in the wrong way and the whole shell can go live - and it did!!!

that's not completely true, you could touch the antenna connector etc at the rear - and with a 2pin plug you have a 50/50 chance of winning!!

i just spent 26€ + tax for a 500g roll of solder last week!!
mine is a bit special with added nickel & germanium - but it's still much cheaper than...

actually, no - atleast not always.

the secondary can have a lower breakdown voltage by how it's wound or the type of insulation on the wire.

try to connect a stepper motor to the shaft.
then a microcontroller can regulate the voltage or current using feedback from an inductive sensor etc.

it sounds like you have 5v but not 12v - if it uses 12v motors.
