Re: Old Tatung SMPS design, expert comment needed ...

The easiest approach looks (to me) to just be to swap that resistor for a higher-power one, 10W maybe?

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame

Speaking of KZGs, I have two ASUS A8AE-LE motherboards from 2007, both have KZGs on the CPU VRM input, and while one board died back in 2013 (super I/O chip blew up) the other is still in use 24/7....

Re: External Charger for Online UPS

The main problem that I see is that if one set (internal or external) of batteries is near-charged while the other is near-discharged for some reason, then when the power goes out and the batteries...

Re: why you backup your data.

I have all of my somewhat important data on a RAID 1 array of two 500GB drives, which is then backed up to a third 500GB drive once a week.

Re: USB hubs: electrical power

Still, polyfuses work both ways. If a dangerous amount of power gets "back-fed", it'll still '"trip" it.

Re: The ghetto mod thread

I couldn't afford a space heater with a thermostat, so I found a 12V power brick and a thermostat that wasn't currently being used, and bought a PowerSwitch Tail II. A bit of wiring later, and now I...

Re: Adobe Flash woes... again.

I've given up on Flash now (along with Java, and a few other things). I simply refuse to install it on any of my computers.

I've burnt up a flash drive that way. I had the USB header connection on the motherboard connected in exactly the "right" way to reverse Vcc and Vss, and D+ and D-, and leave the shield unconnected....

Re: Dell Server PSU Teardown

I've had Ltecs fail after about a year or so in a Delta power supply from a Lexmark C543dn color laser printer. Most of the caps (Ltec and CapXon) were fine, but two Ltecs under one of the heatsinks...

Re: Need light Linux OS for OLD computer
