Re: Ratdude's computer workbench... and epic fail build

Tried to upgrade the KVM firmware over serial, but it wouldn't show up (using my venerable Dell Latitude D630 using it's XP side of the triple boot)... only to discover it has newer firmware than...

Re: Ratdude's computer workbench... and epic fail build

Awhile back I found an upgrade for this setup... a NOS Tripp-Lite B006-VUA4-K-R 4 port KVM... this is a "pro" model compared to the Iogear unit I was using before with an entire OSD system and the...

Re: Ratdude's Main Rig V6

Ah.

That's the same conclusion I was coming to.

It seems some of the later SM boards do support SLI... what I may do is keep the other GPU as a spare (the killer Zotac 970 that came out has...

Re: Ratdude's Main Rig V6

I've tried an upgrade... and well, I've been given the bad luck brian treatment.

Idea: Obtain 2 EVGA 970's and SLI them... After all my chipset supports SLI, right?

Well, I've had 3 fails in a...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

The latter was a $5 Goodwill score... so old it has no SATA... it's a 20 Pin with 5V/3V 5 pin and 14 pin aux connectors. And 12V only molex plugs for fans... Back then 550W was massive. I figured TC...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I don't know it's past history... was it dropped? who knows. Hell the RMA might get rejected... no idea.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Nope, still under warranty until Febuary 2020... so RMA'ing it. :p

We shall see how this plays out.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

She's bin food... tried to make a new partition, cyclic redundancy check city. Only 100 power on hours too... no wonder it was pawned off.

:nutkick: :trashcan: At least it's only $20... Probably...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Got her home... she does work, but there's 100 pending sectors and 96 reallocated. Still OK to use for a server backup image drive? It's only a 6000RPM spinner, so it's not good for much else.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Made a potential pawn shop score. While poking around a pawn shop in TN today (on a solo business trip), found a 3.5" hdd buried in one of the display cases... it's a 4TB Seagate Ironwolf. Has been...

Re: Dell Port replicator glitch/issue

Did it again, no bueno. Not the Nvidia driver (unless this was broken in a prior version that hasn't been fixed).

Re: Dell Port replicator glitch/issue

Updated the Nvidia driver... 3rd display cut out in the middle of the install, was dead until I reseated after rebooting. We'll see if the new driver fixes it for good.

Dell Port replicator glitch/issue

I've been having some weird behavior with one of my laptops at work. Before you ask, our IT department doesn't do hardware much... hell I think I may know more than them on some things :p

Anyway,...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I haven't paid that much of any of mine. Then again I'm hitting up university surplus and thrift stores for the most part (local pickup). Most I've paid has been $20, and that was for a 24" Hanns G...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yes, but it's still a mismatch. 4:3 LCDs do exist but they are rare... 5:4 ones are far more common to the point of being virtually worthless (you can't give them away half the time). At least yours...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Yup. Still score a lot of stuff... it's all about knowing more than they do about what something's worth.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Except that model is a 5:4, not a true 4:3. 1280x1024. For old machines like that I use an "old" FD trinitron (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=875572&postcount=1)... now that thing...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I've had 820uf KZG's fail in storage... was on a pair of Tyan Thunder K8W 2885's from around 2003-2004 or so.

Re: Ratdude's computer workbench... and epic fail build

Workstation builds, soldering, etc. Half the bench wasn't shown, all that was shown was the PC repair half.
