Re: Soldering station thoughts and guidelines

Make sure there is a 1Megohm resistor between the iron tip and earth, so you don't short anything to ground if you accidentally solder something live. Also this limits current of ESD events.

It...

Re: Help with dead Commodore 1802

Some older capacitors may also have two voltage markings; WV for Working Voltage, and SV for Surge Voltage.

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery

Sometimes chips will go faulty and overheat by themselves.

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

Nice! I'm kinda surprised the PG issue was caused by the bad primary capacitor.

Some PSUs really do leave the fan off until things warm up. You can always try heating the sensor with hot air and...

Re: Hot Air Station - Air Pump Failing

It's not common but yes, some bad components will test OK but fail under load. Try a new potentiometer. You might have just got unlucky.

Can you get a brand name one from Digi-Key instead of some...

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

If the board is burnt under the IC you may be having problems with carbon causing leakage and messing with the circuit.

You need to clean up the board well and scrape away any burnt sections, run...

Re: Grundig CUC120 CRT TV

I see there is the +C 200v rail to the output transistors but there is also a 12v rail which comes via 820 ohm resistors to the bases of T2566, T2567, T2568. If either rail was bad, you could get...

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.

I think what redwire is saying, is that Pin 18 may not be the pin the firmware is actually expecting the sleep signal on. As far as the software is concerned, Pin 18 may not even exist - the software...

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

Can we get some photos of the board in its current state at all? I wonder if there's something being overlooked.

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

Not all nodes in a circuit, and hence pins on a component, are referenced to ground. You will not find all shorts by checking between pins and ground.

To test an individual diode for being...

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

Indeed, has it been checked for shorts on all the output rails from this supply? If one was shorted, then the others would show a much lower voltage from the brief pulses as IC200 goes into restart...

Re: [FAQ] Atten 858d problem S-E (or 5-E) or stuck in 498'C.

Whatever controls the heater, probably a Triac, may be shorted?

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

OK that makes sense then, it's an 18v regulator and likely only outputting 3.8v because it's only getting 3.8v.

You are still getting that 3.8v now, with the new Q202 and IC200 etc?

Re: 60pb660v flogging a dead tv-shop visit req

IC201 might be shorted? R_J says D203 should be supplying an 18v rail but you measure 3.8v at IC201 on what seem to be its input and output. That does not seem right in any case.

Or perhaps D203...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

None of them are economically worth fixing, really. Not something as common as an ATX power supply.
Not unless you can spot the problem a mile off and can work quickly with cheap parts.

Low cost...

Re: Help please, Line + 5VSB increases the voltage.

The WT7514L has nothing to do with the 5vSB. It only runs the main supply.

It looks to me like your 5vSB circuit is one of the 2-transistor designs. Are you sure the new capacitors you tried are...

I'd be skeptical about the frequency doubling too. Try the correct chip.

Re: Capacitors with Inside-out Vents

I don't think I've ever seen any with outward vent stamps. Maybe someone in the factory messed up. The whole thing looks pretty cheap and nasty, especially if they cut the sleeve too short as well.

Re: Grundig CUC120 CRT TV

Check other voltage rails. Could be bad voltage to the cathode driver transistors.

Re: Do switches have different output distance capabilities?

Doesn't seem right to me. 50 meters should be fine unless you have some heavy interference near to that specific cable, or it's damaged.

Re: Fun with a new 100W power supply...

And at first I was thinking... a fault caused by photosensitive semiconductors... like the Raspberry Pi that crashes if you take a flash photo of it...

Then I kept reading and realised.
