Re: LPK12-450W safety capacitor shorted

In that case, if you're just going to use the PSU for occasional testing, then you might as well remove those caps altogether. As mentioned, they are for noise and ripple suppression on the line....

Re: Bypassing Passive PFC In ATX Power Supplies

No, that would be APFC which puts more stress on the primary caps.

PPFC (large line-connected inductor) *shouldn't* put more stress on any of the primary components. However, the reasons I say...

Re: PS pcb 50418e1 rev 1.b

Sounds like the PSU is trying to start and then cutting off, restarting, and trying again. So you might want to check the secondary-side driver transistors (the two TO-92 units by the small...

Re: Videoton VT-110, XT clone PSU repair

Nice repair/restoration. Really great to see an old PSU like that brought back to life. :)

If you need more AT PSUs let me know. I do have an old Astec that's built like a tank. Not sure if it...

Re: Different primary capacitors in ATX Power Supply

No, you can mix and match there. I've seen it done and generally it doesn't cause problems. But you'd have to be careful that the capacitance of the two caps is within 20% of their (identical) rated...

Re: Raidmax RX-600 ringing noise and 0ms PG

If the fan had failed and unit overheated, replace ALL the caps, regardless of size. This being an APFC PSU, probably also a good idea to replace the main cap too. I see it's a cheapo brand anyways,...

Re: Cable Modem Repair - Why Do They Fail?

Open it and post some pictures so we can see what's inside it. If it's not bad caps in the modem and the power supply, we will need to dig deeper.

Could also be bad/noisy signal coming in from...

Re: Harbor Freight Tools Heat Gun Item 96289 JSRF-601C Repair

Somehow, I am doubtful the diode heatsink was the fix here. If the diode was overheating so badly without the heatsink, then even with the heatsink, you'd see it get quite hot. If that diode is...

Re: Shuttle XPC SD30G2B (FD30 motherboard)

@ BigTroll: check all of the voltage rails are present. Not just on the PSU, but the board itself. Namely, find and check CPU V_core, CPU Vtt, RAM Vdd, RAM Vtt, NB/SB Vcc (could be more than one...

Re: gigabyte GTX 760OC. no display.

For all practical purposes, that's correct.

Though a GPU reflow might revive the card and make it work for a bit while longer (again, how long will vary with every card and how the...

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

Well, I keep mine closed and have never dipped my iron's tip in it, but it still went dark. I'm thinking it has more to do reaction to UV light. Although I keep my flux away from direct sunlight for...

Re: Ps3 shutting down

They usually overheat and burnout. Sometimes it's the secondary-side synchronous rectifiers, other times the primary-side switch transistors. And sometimes, it's neither of these and the SMD ICs and...

Re: gigabyte GTX 760OC. no display.

No, these modern GPUs work off of the 12V rail only, which they then convert down for the GPU core, GPU secondary core / PCI-E comm bus, RAM Vdd, and RAM Vtt. The only place you will see 5V is on...

Re: Does flux expire ?? Flux discussion.

Yup.

Apparently, Kingbo is just another generic Chinese RMA flux, so the quality will vary. But from what I've seen myself and heard from others so far, it's anywhere from acceptably working to...

Re: Ps3 shutting down

Could use a little more details, like full model number of the PS3.

If it's a "phat" one, issue could be the GPU, the PSU (particularly if it has a Nichicon-made PSU), or those NEC-Tokin caps...

Re: Upside down bga reflow?

What diif said. ^

The induction cooker will only heat metal parts made of ferrous metals (i.e. iron, steel, etc.) Nothing else will react.
Also, the inductive field could (and very likely will)...

Re: 2x EVGA 970 with same issue

You have GPU chip failure on both of these cards.

Might be able to revive them with the hot air station if you do a "reflow", but don't count on it... and if you do, the repair likely won't last...

Re: gigabyte GTX 760OC. no display.

If this is a problem that appeared "out of nowhere" in a PC that it's been working fine in before, and if the PSU is a known good brand (and no bad caps inside it)... then most likely the GPU chip on...

Re: Seasonic X 850W not turning on

Can you point it out? I don't see it at all. I've seen caps (both solid and wet electrolytic) get their cases trashed a lot more and still work fine.

I've actually tried that before. The chip will solder to the board, but very unreliably / not all contacts in most cases.

Reason why is as diff mentioned - you're not going to get nice balls on...

Re: Badcaps.net Origin & Roots - Topcat's VP6 Thread!

Nice work, as always. ;)

Is this going to be built into an official system, BTW? I don't see an audio card, so I imagine this setup was just something to test/evaluate the system and not so much a...
