Re: Wine Enthusiast wine cooler, no power. Model # 272 03 29

In the quoted post R_J asked you to check the rectified AC voltage.
Without that check it is hard to get further: but this is a dangerous check done with power connected as he mentions.
Please...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Many times the panel can be replaced by different models.
I have upgraded laptops for example with better panels etc.
Another upside to this is that since the panel is not for a specific laptop...

Re: Dell poweredge 2600 power supply nps-730ab

Pretty much every cheap PSU design will retry forever.
Meaning it detects a fault: shutdown, then starts up and tries again...

Re: Capacitive dropper supplies not lasting

I found two really good capacitor series now:
Kemet F862 is a special series, directly quoting from the datasheet:
"Typical applications include connection in series with the mains, capacitive...

Re: M$ Security Essentials (MSE) Stopped updating 3 days ago....

That is confusing because that patch is way too old to give you SHA-2 support.
So I guess MS must still be making definition updates that are compatible with Windows XP and Vista for MSE which will...

Re: Dell Optiplex 990 psu H240AS-00

You do need to do some work yourself.
Just read this thread and the one linked by SMDFlea in post #22 above (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpost.php?p=912831&postcount=22) and you will have your...

Re: Capacitive dropper supplies not lasting

Yes, this is the document I based my initial post on.
Sorry I forgot to attach it then.
I think I agree with budm from my other thread:

I think this is 100% true, nobody really cared for the...

Re: ELKO Thermostat D3200 Schematic

I desoldered the little MELF that sits across the relay coil pads.
It is a diode that measures a 650mV drop on my transistor tester and 550mV on my Fluke 28-II
So probably it is a regular diode....

Re: M$ Security Essentials (MSE) Stopped updating 3 days ago....

Windows Update is SHA2 only from now.
You need to patch the system, but make a backup first.
I had to recover a system that installed the August monthly rollup because that patch broke UEFI boot in...

Re: ELKO Thermostat D3200 Schematic

Well, there is some space in there.
And a strange thing is the mechanical switch: it is huge!
Without it there would be allot of free space inside...
But anyway the yellow capacitor is larger but...

Re: ELKO Thermostat D3200 Schematic

Super thanks redwire, I never managed to find the manufacturer of the X2 cap!
I did a deep dive now, as I thought maybe Kemet added that warning to not use this X2 cap in series with the mains at...

Re: CPU Fans - Which, when, and why

It is more common in my experience that the RPM/tach/sense cable is Yellow.

There are standards for wiring colors but almost nobody cares...

Re: clearing solder from very small vias

Use good solder braid with solder wick inside it, or add lots of wick to it.
Cover the holes with lead-solder.
Use the biggest tip you have (more thermal mass) and try the braid again.
P.S: If the...

Re: ELKO Thermostat D3200 Schematic

The relay is 24VDC
The yellow X2 cap is not the original one, the original is pictured here (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=201658&d=1571846138) in the OP.
I scavenged it...

ELKO Thermostat D3200 Schematic

As I was looking at capacitive dropper supplies (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80208) I drew up a literal "back of the envelope" schematic of this thing.
To not let it go to waste...

Re: Dell poweredge 2600 power supply nps-730ab

Yes, to test the caps.
Obviously if you already have a capacitor tester that tests for ESR too just check them?

Re: Extractor Fan power supply

Yes it should be fine, probably does not matter if it is low ESR or not in this circuit.
It might be a good idea to check the capacitance of the C1 X2 film capacitor as well, if you are anyway...
