Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Got a Harman Kardon AVR65 surround amp a little over a week ago. Not sure if it works yet. Trash day pick in the nearby neighborhood. Basically, I went out grocery shopping the previous day and...

Re: Asus CUV4-X suddenly has coil whine

Interesting...
I still don't see the connection between the two, but there really must be one.

That said, maybe see if the motherboard has options like "AGP Fast Write" and "AGP Aperture Size" in...

Re: Two graphic cards not detected by BIOS

That's not really possible.
If you have a low resistance between point A and B and also point B and C, then naturally, there will be a low resistance between A and C too (same stuff as middle school...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

Ah, Y U NO include label/model info?! :D

That thing looks tiny - pretty sure that's not ATX.
And semi-fanless without Hysteresis? Does that mean fan goes On and Off like crazy when the PSU...

Re: Sony CD player CDP-397 repair, No Disc, fixed

^ Yeah, it's a high-end model, which is why my uncle is trying to get it working (for himself).

Re: The Cheapest ATX Power Supply on Amazon Prime, How bad can it be?

^ Nice! :D
I like how you matched the sticker color and added a recapped date too. ;)

Still not sure if the 12V rail will do 30 Amps continuous with two 20-Amp rectifiers in parallel... but...

Re: The PacMan ATX Computer Case - cleaning and painting

Early 2000's sounds about right for these cases.

Yes, corrosion can happen from many things, including moist air + dust mixing together. In my case (literally! :D ), the mice dropping were stuck...

Thumbs up Antec Performance One P180B case from Craigslist

Last week, I got an Antec Performance One P180B case off of my local Craigslist for $10. It came with a SATA DVD-RW drive and also four 120 mm fans (three of which are Antec with a speed selector) ...

Talking The PacMan ATX Computer Case - cleaning and painting

With these results, I proceeded to sand the rusted areas on the PC case as best as I could. I then gave the bottom part the same silver latex paint that I thought worked best on the experimental PSU....

Talking The PacMan ATX Computer Case - cleaning and painting

This was another interesting Craigslist find I saw a PC case in the computer section for sale. It had only one picture, showing the case with the side off and the case stuffed with PSUs, optical...

Re: Asus CUV4-X suddenly has coil whine

What brand of capacitors does your motherboard use? The ones pictured at hw-museum.cz are Rubycon. But knowing ASUS, it's possible they could have used something else on your motherboard, so that's...

Re: Supermicro P6DGU Retro Build

Absolutely. :D (which is also why I included a link to the original post).
I just felt like teasing a bit. ;)
Hope you didn't mind. :)

Yeah, I have that feeling too. I'm just trying to thin...

Re: Supermicro P6DGU Retro Build

Man, those Plextor optical drives look awesome!
And I see both of them have their lights on. Are you reading something from one and burning it on the other? :)

Of course!...

Re: Another HannsG HG281D

Looks okay to me now. All the main rail voltages are there and what they should be. I think the gammas are alright to (otherwise, you would have had a faded / wrong-colored image even on the working...

Re: 5v rail to high

Yup, most of my cheap multimeter do that. I just have to rotate the dial several times to clean the oxidized contacts. After that, they read voltage okay... provided that their batteries are also...

Re: The Cheapest ATX Power Supply on Amazon Prime, How bad can it be?

+10

Definitely a decent power supply now that you can use in any average-powered rig (i.e. nothing with a big power-hungry GPU over 80 Watts.)

And yes, probably a good idea to re-label it...

Re: Your Video Card Cooling Mods

No ideas, but I do know temperatures below freezing weaken the epoxy, though. In the past, I've removed the heat spreaders on PS3 GPU chips just with heating the heat spreader to around 60-80C and...

Re: Two graphic cards not detected by BIOS

^ The Drain pin on that MOSFET should be connected to the 12V rail on your PSU, then. Otherwise, check your measurements again, as it doesn't make sense for this MOSFET to be connected to the fan and...

Re: Enermax PRO 82+ 525W repair

No problems, and sorry if it seems like I'm overtaking your thread.

But I figured since I have the same exact PSU with almost the same issue, we might as well "combine resource" (or so to speak)...

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

If it's an oldschool stereo amplifier (1980's or 1990's) with Japanese caps, it probably will be okay to just plug it in. Most of the Japanese caps used in those amps are non-aqueous, and often don't...

Re: Another HannsG HG281D

Those in the bald text are all problematic.
VDDA should be at least 10V, and not uncommon to have it to 12-15V.
VGL should be negative and VGH at least 3-8V higher than VDDA.

So it looks like...

Re: Supermicro P6DGU Retro Build

Don't worry that much. ;) I agree that flash always makes things look worse than they are (and hence why I always try to take shots without). But in this case (pun intended :p: ), the results came...

Re: Panasonic Thrusters SB-250

24 AWG, supposedly. I know, I got suspicious of that too. It's probably only rated for a low-voltage, hence why it looks so thin (i.e. it has thinner insulation).

Come to think of it, that would...

Part 2: Disabling the APFC Circuit and Some Testing

Ever since I saw more than a few PSUs with blown APFC circuits, I always wondered if there is a way to disable the APFC section. Well folks,...
