Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I guess we're different in nature then. :D
I usually don't enjoy listening to music unless I am doing it actively. If anything, blasting music while doing everyday work/tasks wears me out even more,...

Re: Recommendations: Portable laptop/tablet for texas hot auto shop environment

Like TC, I've never seen that problem either. If the PC supported that amount of RAM, it always worked.

If anything, I've only seen you complain of so many BSODs and instability issues. ;)
I'm...

Re: YH-853AAA soldering station any good ?

^ The kitchen stove could be your friend. ;)

I have gas range here, and it works amazing for pre-heating and bottom-heating during reflows. You might think the flame is bad for the PCB, but it...

Re: EZ-Cool ATX-650JSP ATX PSU recap.

Don't fall for that hype.

There are plenty of ultra low ESR caps that are 15+ years old (mainly Rubycon MBZ and Panasonic FL) and still perfectly fine. Just because polymers almost never show any...

Re: another stupid polymer question (can going REALLY high ripple be bad?)

Unlikely.

There are still too many companies that run older browsers and apps. Also one of the reasons why FF ESR exists. And even when 32-bit software "dies", it would be just the browsers.

Re: How to Recondition (Reform) Electrolytic Capacitors and Why

Can we see some pictures?

If the liquid really came from the caps... sorry, but they are DONE. No reforming or any voodoo magic can help them. That's because once they vent, moisture and other...

Re: YH-853AAA soldering station any good ?

More than likely, it is.

But like stj said, you don't need it during desoldering with hot air.

Re: Toshiba 32av833G PSU schematic (missing parts)

Congrats!

Exactly. Most of the time, those Zener diodes are there for protection, not active regulation.

The aux. rail probably doesn't overshoot that much during startup, as most...

Re: XFX eVGA GeForce 8600 GT [PV-T84J-UDD3 V2.2] recap and cooler mod

Yes, all these XFX 8600 GT cards are factory overclocked, unless the box specifically says "540 MHz core" on the front. Actually if you look at the picture of the box in the first post above, the box...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

Two days ago was trash day in a nearby neighborhood in my town. Seems like lots of people are moving in the summer now, as almost every week I see piles of stuff thrown out. Last week, I saw an older...

XFX eVGA GeForce 8600 GT [PV-T84J-UDD3 V2.2] recap and cooler mod

Around March of this year, I found yet another of these 8600 GT video cards for pretty cheap on eBay ($8 shipped to my place). Needless to say, the urge to save it came out of me again, so I bought...

Re: EZ-Cool ATX-650JSP ATX PSU recap.

Yup, certain ISA cards from what I've read before.

Sounds like a plan. I too have "adjusted" components around in the past to get bigger caps to fit. Just when you're done installing the bigger...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2

WOW! ^
Didn't know CapXon LZ series were that bad. Look how many of them bulged without even being used (new leads) - that's insane! Not worse than just KZG... it's worse than almost anything I've...

Re: pile of vacuum tubes... what to toss?

Don't toss them! Put them on eBay for someone to use in a "crafts" / "art" project. ;)
Unfortunately, I can't answer your other questions - I'm not versed in tubes and tube gear.

Re: Resistor value helpalues

Looks like a 68 KOhm to me as well.

Are you sure that's how it's connected, though?

Budm suggests is used for the snubber network, which makes sense given the resistor value. But if it's part...

Re: EZ-Cool ATX-650JSP ATX PSU recap.

Mr. Hanson covered pretty much all of the questions above, so I only have a few small additions. :)

Just like the Fuhjyyu caps, they are certainly not going to be high quality reliable parts. As...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial - Jewel JS-12030-2E power adapter

Picked up this 12 Volt, 3 Amp power adapter at a local thrift shop for $3, because one of my portable 3.5 HDD enclosures uses a slightly more weird power jack.
Its made by Jewel, model number...

Re: Replacing unknown NTC Thermistor in Corsair CX400

Re: Your Video Card Cooling Mods

Well no worries about that HD6850 - just pull the BIOS with GPU-Z, edit the fan curves with RBE (Radeon BIOS Editor) so that max fan duty cycle occurs at 70-75C and minimum starts around 40C. Then...

Re: Toshiba 32av833G PSU schematic (missing parts)

Should be fine.
Maybe get several different Zener diodes so that you can experiment, in case the 19V one is too low and doesn't work / burns out.

Also, just a though: did you check the output...

Re: GNR TS902W no power , help please

DO NOT USE THAT in place of the incandescent bulb!
It is rated for 200W @ 12V only. That means that at 240V, it will try to dissipate over 3000 Watts if something on the PSU short-circuits.

Re: Asus P8Z68 troubleshoting

Depending on what kind of regulator is feeding the PCH in standby, that could be the source of the problem too. I've seen 1117 and 78xx regulators go short-circuit between all three pins. Since one...

Re: Your Video Card Cooling Mods

Nice work there! :)

Those Radeon HD6k cards are even more susceptible to going bad when exposed to high temperatures. So with yours running no more than 53C, I imagine it should definitely last a...

Ah that's right.
I think I might have been confusing you with another member.

Thanks. Should be helpful if you get stuck and we need to help you. But looks like you got this down pretty well....
