The GOOD Capacitors Thread!!

We've spent so much time and posts here ragging on the bad caps brands (and rightly so), but neglected to mention the good ones out there. If you're planning on recapping your board, these brands of caps are definitely good brands to use.

1) Rubycon (My personal favorite)
2) Sanyo/Nippon
3) Nichicon
4) Mallory
5) Panasonic

If anyone has time-tested and PROVEN good brands to add to the list, post here!! The first one that posts Jackcon in this thread is bannished into the black world of forum outcasts!! ;)

Samsung is also a good an inexpensive choice. I've used a few 2200 uF, 10V.

HardOCP referrred to Samsung TMZ on two Asus boards, dunno if they were correctly identified though. they do make low esr caps though. pity they are crap.

Another Chemi-con site is http://chemi-con.co.jp
You have to click on the English version but be prepared for a little Engrish in some areas.

Strike Nichicon from the list - they're the culprits in the recent spurt of failures of Dell SC400 and GX270 systems:

Are Elna good caps? Saw about 20 of them in a 1987 VCR that was still working but unneeded. Because it was unneeded, I gutted it and am using the case in a mod project.

Re: The GOOD Capacitors Thread!!

I'd consider Elna a maybe. IMO, Nichicon, United (Nippon) Chemicon, Rubycon, and Panasonic/Matsushita are the top tier miniature lytic mfrs. And Sanyo for their OSCONs (I haven't used their lytics). Elna, Illinois Capacitor, and maybe Teapo would be second tier. The rest of the usual suspects are scary except in really low stress applications.

Re: The GOOD Capacitors Thread!!

I have salvaged many Sanyo 3300 x 6.3v lytics adjacent the CPU from Azza boards and re-use them.

Admittedly they are in the company of DS bottom tier crapcaps, but I don't think Ihave ever seen a Sanyo fail even though they are positioned in the most stressfull location of the mainboard.

I have never had one test bad on the ESR meter and just recycled about 10 of em in a recent recap.

Seem to have a lot goin for em from my experience.

Chris1992 states Samxon are crap!! They do not make the bad cap list. Where is the evidence please? What product series (eg GC series) is identified as a problem and at what date?

Where did I ever say samxon are crap?

NVM, I saw on the first page. I said IIRC, I was probably thinking about Capxon.

Re: The GOOD Capacitors Thread!!

Let's drop this, please. Chris has already stated that he confused CapXon and SamXon, and that seems to be a reasonable explanation. Just BTW, CapXon aren't too bad either - I'd rate them above G-Luxon and around Teapo.
