Win 2008 Server Std x64 extremely slow

I'm running a new HP DL360G6 with Windows Server 2008 x64. What I'm running into is that the Windows Explorer process is painfully slow. If you browse around in folders and files, it takes 3-5 seconds to load each screen.

We're running a time and attendance system on this server, and all of the software relating to that system performs as expected.

Today, I restarted the server to install Windows Updates, and it's been configuring updates for the last 30 minutes (there were only 10 smaller updates). I'm guessing that this should mean that none of the other processes (time and attendance or A/V) should be the cause, as they wouldn't be loaded as of when it's "configuring updates".

Any thoughts? This isn't an R2 server, so maybe I need to upgrade?

If it's only explorer that is slow and everything else runs fine then I would look at what shell extensions you have installed. If possible try uninstalling anything that has added extensions to explorer one at a time and see if that resolves it.

For what it's worth I have a few servers running 2008 x64 and explorer runs fine.

      How much RAM?
You don't have any drives mapped to a server that no longer exists to you? Disconnect them if you do.

I've seen Windows sit applying updates for ages, best to do them overnight when people aren't using the server.

        get a Linux live disk,
it's a good way to see if a problem is caused by software or hardware.

something drive related? or the 64bit driver?

MacBook Pro A1708 - CPU extremely slow, locked @ 0.39ghz; fan full speed
                by gjlpereira
                Hi forum.

I'm working on a macbook pro, model a1708, that is running extremely slow.

Everything on it seams to work just fine, it just works extremely slow; painfully slow; especially running macos (windows and linux actually run OKish on it, slow, but usable).
One other symptom of the problem with the machine is that the fan is always running at full speed.

This machine has been worked on by someone else previously; they tried to repair it, but with no success. The motherboard does have sings of being worked on, but it all looks good/OK; like...

Macbook air with 820-3437-B extremely slow
                by Francisco.s
Hi, have a Macbook air with 820-3437-B with a weird problem.

It starts and seems to stop at the very beginning of POST, there is no chime and no access to usb boot pen-drive.

Current consumption is near 500 mili amps and seems not to do anything/

The weird issue is that if left it in this state "booting", the chime sounds about 4 minutes from start, and 2 minutes later I can see the pendrive led blinking and back-light is on. About 2 minutes more the progress bar starts, but in very slow motion.

It takes more than 30 minutes to show...

Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
                by omega
                Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...

                Server equipment... slow boot?
                by eccerr0r
Is it normal for servers to take an eon to boot?

I have two "server class" machines/boards now, with ECC RAM. Both take an eon and a half to boot.

The specific one I have is a Supermicro board with an atom c2550 chip in it. It takes forever, almost a minute before it initializes vga if at all (for some reason it doesn't even init the onboard VGA port, I have to stick in a PCIe card). Machine almost seems dead before then.

The other machine is an Itanium machine, likewise does not init VGA until at least a few minutes after power up.

Acer v5-573g got extremely slow after BIOS flash
                by HisInfernal
                Hello!
                I have acer v5-573g (i5-4200u, geforce 720m, 8gb ram).
Couple of weeks ago I decided to modify a little bit BIOS configuration via EFI console (usb stick with efi boot with setup_var commands). So I bricked my laptop. Afterwards I disassembled it and desoldered BIOS chip (2MB one) and flashed it with usb programmer. There was no success and just after that I found that there is second BIOS chip, which is 4MB, so I disoldered it as well and flashed it as well.
I was flashing BIOS from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=844418 (Aspire V5-573G bios...
