I have a hp 8000 ssf USB ports work well with flash drives but when I connect USB keyboard and mouse it does not work. USB voltages are okay and I checked all front and rear ports.
ps2 keyboard and mouse works well too.
I flashed bios ic with a working dump but it didn't help
anyone had the same problem ?

did you try the keyboard in every port?
some dell/HP bioses only support HID devices at the front.
supposedly for security! - load of bs that is!

check your cmos config. Sometimes they're configured not to take specific types of devices. Though usually those devices are flash drives for security reasons.

check your device manager to see if they get detected in windows, or show an error, or HID or an error of the device itself

yes of course. I also reflowed southbridge and IO but it does not help too ...
maybe there is a problem with southbridge and I should change it ?!

probably not SB related. If there was something wrong with the SB it's likely nothing would work, not specific HIDs

Perhaps burn a linux cd and liveboot to see if linux picks them up

Re: hp 8000 ssf usb keyboard not detected

I saw this same issue only twice one one set of specific AIO HP PCs we set up at my old job. In particular, it was only the keyboard that stopped working in certain USB ports that it used to work fine in before. The weird part is, just as the O/P describes it - flash drives work, but KB does not. And this happens before the OS boots too - i.e. not even BIOS is able to see it. So I don't know if that's the same problem or not, but we got called out twice to service these HP AIO PCs for this particular issue... and since we weren't actually responsible for servicing these (I wasn't IT in the company, but they called us anyways), the solution was to just use a different USB port. We never got to figure it out, so unfortunately this is all the information I have about this.
