    Compact Flash IDE Interface

I have a microdrive with an IDE interface. I want to put it in a laptop as a drive. I got one of those IDE to CF adapters but it only runs at MwDMA 2. The drive supports ata 66. Is there a direct adapter I should be using since the drive is ide?

    get the ide44 pinout,
there may be a pin you need to connect to ground to enable ata66

like on fullsize motherboards that can detect if you have 40pin or 80pin cable that way.

Its not even doing UDMA at all. I think the CF adapter does not like it. Would this work better?

        Re: Compact Flash IDE Interface

hard to tell. afaik there are 2 lines (DMACK and DMARQ) that have to be connected on both interfaces and not just pulled to ground.
i've heard very good things about the Addonics adapters.
BUT: according to wikipedia a microdrive has only R/W rates of 10/5 MB/s, which is well within the 16.6 MB/s of MwDMA2.
wiki also says that a microdrive is only rated for 140hrs per month for its specified lifetime.
a fast and reliable CF card may be the better choice.
be aware though that only the Sandisk Ultra series strictly follow the IDE protocol and are said to work well on most IDE controllers. I've tried Transcend and Twinmos and both refused to work in my laptop.

This is a different MD than average. It doesn't have a CF interface at all. Its 4200RPM and UDMA66. The laptop only has ATA33. A CF card would be better but this drive was really cheap, cheaper than I could get a CF card.

I loaded windows on it and it flies... then pauses.. flies then pauses. It also takes a long time to detect and I think its because of the IDE adapter. Access time vs the 4200rpm 10gb hd is actually lower. 10ms vs 12ms The power savings should be good too.

I've heard good things about the adonics adapters but they cost 3 or 4x what I paid for this media.

ATA66 has not much to do with DMA.
There is ATA33-ATA133 and DMA/PIO mode.

I have tried a Lexar CF card on cheap adapter. Only PIO worked which was usless for a such card.

I'd rather use a dedicated IDE drive 7200RPM if there is a chance or you don't have other priorities, like space, loudness etc.

The laptop only supports ATA33 max. Way too old for new stuff. Its very small and the HDs aren't very well protected so they keep dying after some time.

Per any chance Compaq N600 ? Those things went thru a HDD in a year. Toasted it with heat.

Thinkpad X21. Smaller than N600 by a little. Absolutely no protection of hard drive.

N600 heats up HDD like crazy, has Ati Rage GPU sitting directly on top of it with no ventilation whatsoever. It easily reaches 60°C >.>
Not sure if that is even worth repairing anymore. It just causes problems.

I've run across a few of those. Some would overheat and turn off. It LOOKS like a solidly built laptop. I kind of wanted one but I guess its good I didn't get one.

Yes, LOOKS, but it is crap inside. This thing has broken at least 5 times already. You are really lucky you didn't pick one.

                          Hi all,
I’m trying to recover a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE05 with board DA0LS3MBAF0 Rev:F. I’ve run into an unusual issue where USB-C PD is stuck at 4.7–5V and the system won’t boot (keyboard lights flash briefly, then nothing).

I experienced a power issue or ESD event through a USB-C charger
After that, the NX20P5090 power switch was visibly burned and was replaced
Now the PD controller always negotiates 5V @ 2A, even with known-good chargers

Nikon D800 camera - flash don’t work and capacitor don’t charge

                          Hello, I'm stuck in troubleshooting…
The flash system works like that : when the (mechanic) flash button is pressed, the flash mecanically pop up, and a circuit buck boost elevate 7v (batt) to 200-300v (?) for charging the big capacitor. And when the photo shoot button is pressed, the capacitor is discharged in the xeon light.

In the D800, there is a first « power board » close to the battery. 2 wires (batt 7v) goes to another little « flash board ». I measured 7v, so ok.
When I press the flash button, it's detected by the system, flash icon appear on LDC display....

Canon VIXIA HF S10 A read data from inernal flash memory.
                          by abajor
Hello I've had somebody bring in one of these charming little cameras to attempt retrieving data from the internal 32GB flash.
Something is damaged inside the cameras lens assembly I can hear it clunking around and it has probably dislodged the sensor, powering up the camera gives a blank screen and the focus motor sounds like it's having a fit.
The camera will not connect to a computer via USB in this state, I have no options no navigation, just power up and focus/zoom motor noises.

I think my best shot is to figure out a way to read the internal flash memory outside...

                          HI guys

I got here a Sony 65X950G - I tried to find any repairs guides for this model but not many online

                          here is the issue
I have Sony and android logo. but then 4 led red flash lights front of the tv

I have 3.3v ref. 12v reg then T con 12v when I press the power on button
but then I get black screen and 4 red flash light at the front LED
but I get 3 led flash on the LED driver board.

I check that few X900F or C YouTube repairs, seems that if you have 4 led red flash it could be due of LED black light error
                          so I tried...

                          Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...
