Dreamweaver? Are you looking for an editor or a CMS?

I have not done a lot of website design. However when I did do a bit, Dreamweaver was very good. Mind you this was back in the day when Macromedia was not bought out by Adobe (therefore quite some time ago).

Well... a lot of stuff is CSS now. Dreamweaver is split code/design view. First you design in photoshop and then codify it.

I have dreamweaver here... but what do you mean by design in photoshop then codify?

Also, is it true that professionals also use dreamweaver? As for CMS, I'm not very interested in it because I'm trying to design a website for an architectural firm so CMS is not needed.

CompoZer is a good one. open source too, which means its a free download. if you are like me and have no knowledge of code, then its a good start. i use it on ubuntu, but thwy make it for all platforms.

I don't know what "professionals" use. Design companies probably have teams geared towards specific tasks. The coders may code by hand or use any number of tools.

The usual process is: You draw an overall design in photoshop. Then you cut it up and position everything and make it do what it is supposed to (add the code).

                      Part of what I mean.
