    Network Printers

My friend called me this morning about her printer. I fixed her Compaq Presario V2417AP laptop recently and I didn't set up the printer for her (totally forgot about it).

Anyway it's a network printer but I'm pretty much clueless to what the hell is going on in terms of setting it up. I believe the printer is a HP?... making a random guess here because all the computers and laptops at her place are HP/Compaqs.

Anyway how do I set up a network printer?

    Thanks.

    Re: Network Printers

do you mean one hooked to the network directly or one at a terminal on the network?

if hooked to the terminal, then:

    windows:

make sure the printer is set to shared at the terminal. then at each other terminal, browse then network to find the printer, then double click it , wjich will start the process. you will then select models or install drivers by selecting "have disk". follow the on screen instructions

    linux:

add a printer. select network printer and then windows printer via SAMBA and then browse the network tree to find it. then go on to select your model. follow the on screen instructions.

its a bit more difficult for ones hooked up directly, but its not too hard.

first, look at the printer's settings. you need the ip address of it. should be in settings somewhere. write that down.

    2. if you are in windows (and linux), add a new printer.

Windows: when you select the port, choose "new port"
and from the drop down menu, select the ip setting (its some thing goofy but has ip in it).

use the default port # (should be port 9100) and enter in the ip adress you copied

then select model or select "have disk" to use the inf in the driver package. if you already installed drivers, it should be in the list

for linux, select from the new printer page, network printer and if the printer shows up (as the ip adress you wrote down) then select that. if not, the select hp jet direct, then enter the ip adress.

keep the port on port 9100. then go on to select your printer model.

    there you go!

ps- fyi, hp has the best linux support of any printer company. brother is second, canon/epson are tied, and lexmarks are paperweights for then newer ones (older ones had drivers but were a pain to set up.)

      Re: Network Printers

One printer is a HP Laserjet 2840 and the other printer is a HP Laserjet 8100... I don't know how to set these up... they are connected directly to a dynalink access point. Please help me.

      Thanks.

        Re: Network Printers

first thing you need to know is the IP address. how to find out?

        a) it has a default ip (hp document -see below- says it could be 192.0.0.192) or
        b) browse the windows network neighborhood or look in the AP web config (both unreliable) or
        c) print a self test or config page from the printer's menu.

maybe the IP can be set in the printer's menu. works with my very old LJ4 but i think all the new HP lasers have a web frontend.

once you're there, the rest *should* be easy.

          Re: Network Printers

I'm just wondering... but does the laptop have to have the same "workgroup" name as all the other PCs to see the printer? The printer is connected to a Dynalink router and the PCs are connected to that Dynalink router too.

Anycubic Photon 5.5 3D printer 25Q32 flashrom dump needed
            by re-atari
Hello all, as the title says, I'm very much in need of a valid firmware dump of a Anycubic Photon 5.5 3D resin printer. It's stored in a Winbond 25Q32, so it's 4Mbyte.

Here's a little background for my request. A few weeks ago I bought this 3D printer from a guy who had moved on to a PLA printer. I got it at a vey reasonable price, as it was in a defective state. The seller told me that he had experienced a power failure during a firmware upgrade, after which the printer appeared to be dead. He thought the firmware was corrupted in such a way that the printer was now bricked. As he...

Brother HL-2140 laser printer: printer error (solved)
            by Curious808
SOLVED. I removed the printer in settings, replugged and let it reinstall and it worked this time.

            Windows 10

Attempt to print and immediately get a Windows pop-up saying "Error printing". The document appears in the printer queue window with Status "Error-printing".

Turned off printer. Unplugged, waited, replugged. Ran the Windows troubleshooter. Removed and reinserted toner cartridge. Checked for paper jam. No printer error lights. Reinstalled driver. Restarted the Spooler service. Rebooted...

            Home network connection problem
            by davg
I just bought a new ThinkPad laptop and I need to connect it to my home network. I have several computers on my network and can see each other in File Explorer and the older ones can communicate with each other (even with the new one) but the ThinkPad can see the other computers but can't communicate with them. I get the (network error 0x80070035 The network path not found). I tried several scenarios that I found on line but none of them worked?? Since the other computers on the network can communicate fine I'm assuming the problem is with the setup of the ThinkPad? All computers are running Windows...

Issues with Lexmark driver lead to total inability to print
            by televizora
Up to this moment I never had a problem with Lexmark printer drivers.
A few days ago I needed to install drivers for MS415 on several computers.
Downloaded from the official Lexmark site
I tried to install them via the installer, using the inf and etc.
On Windows7 they totally bug out.
On WindowsXP the install of the driver leads to total inability to print, after the install fails with Operation cannot be completed not only this printer would not work, but if you select properties of any other already installed printer it says something like "Driver cannot...
