    tachometer on fan not working

my cpu cooler's tacometer is not working. pwm control does.
it is a scythe sleeve bearing fan. tachomer reads 0 rpm. other fan reads 4500 rpm.

    what could be causing this?

Could just be the software is not reading it right, or the rpm sensor in the fan went out.

      probably #2

i had 2 intel fans once (p3 slot-1 coolers). one tach worked, one didn't. i checked the temps in bio to confirm. btw, fan 2 was at 850 or 450 (ish), not 4500. my remembering skills failed at that one

        Hi Raatdude...

That particular fan runs really slow.

Most motherboards have a threshold below which no RPM readings appear.

Most likely the fan speed is below the threshold.
Try disabling the fan speed control in BIOS so as to get full speed. Or changing the parameters may speed it up. It's in the PC Health section.

If it bothers you, just get a faster fan.

        Have Fun,
        Keri

i connected it to the second fan port w/o a pwm pin and still no rpm.

Some boards have lower limit that creases to monitor RPM. Try to make mainboard to spin that fan faster and see if the monitor rpm working again, if so, put it back and don't worry about no-rpm issues.

I see this once in awhile.
