debian for me
and xubuntu on an ancient PII laptop I have
I use XP pro mostly now though, but when I rebuilt my system in a few weeks i'll be going linux primarily with XP hanging out just so I can get my gaming fixComment

I'm waiting on Win 7 with bated breath, until then I use Windows XP and for testing computers I use Damn Small Linux (DSL) on a 128mb usb stick.Comment

Windows Xp Pro all the way. Xp Home is Ok, and I do have that on all 3 Dells because my Dell Xp Home is legal...LOL My Hp Compaq has Xp Pro on it right now but its bloated, and needs reprogramed. This is a problem because I don't have the Hp Compaq Xp Pro CD, and there is no backup partition for Xp Pro on its hard drive ether.

. It's simple and works well for what I need it to do - music, youtube, word/ppt/excel, and ocasionally play some older games.

ratdude747, Cracked/hacked OSes are found to have malwares/nasties. And I'm not saying this lightly. How can you dare to suggest this without warning this?
And saying where it is "clean" is oxyomen with hacked stuff.

Eh, they are fairly clean. Viruses come out pretty quick once you toss it on the pirate bay. Unless its not popular.
Regular retail XP cd, which you can download + the COA and no more worries. You can even activate it.Comment

XP Pro (using 64bit version on main PC, 32bit one on secondary PC) or Windows 7. For older PCs, Windows 2000.
Btw, if you use pirate XP, use XP Pro Corporate (no activation).Comment

This found its way to my workbench this week.
Wired Wall Light Cam S100
The buyer thought he got a great deal but it turns out it was likely dead and the seller tried to get anything they could for it by passing it off on an unsuspecting buyer.
Rather than tossing it in the bin he gave it to me to play with as he knows how much I love to try to solve problems like these.
The camera portion of this device worked fine when powered via USB but when on the mains it would not work at all.
This reminded me of the eufy floodlight... -
Hi There!
I'm trying to help my friend who owns a restaurant be just bought.
He has a very long LED strip running along all the walls and columns. The strip is attached facing down 2in above the floor, using a wall panel that ends in a metal rail that finishes the panel underneath
It's stuck using, I guess, the 2 sided tape that comes with the strip
The issue is that like 1/2 of the full length, including 1/2 one wall, another entire wall, and one column, flickers after 4 or 5 minutes ON. Particularly it flashes staying OFF most of the time and flashing ON for 1 tenth... -
Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.
My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.
I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone... -

this is a very strange Problem:
Notebook hang instantly on Boot. BIOS is accesable.
Windows: instant after showing "loading circle", even Windows Boot Stick hang instant (even without installed SSD/NVME )
Linux: instantly (if Linux Boot in leagacy Mode with log messages: Machine Check exception after 0.25 sec)
i have tried:
- only one RAM Stick, another working RAM, both RAM channel
- BIOS Flash to newest Version F.50, BIOS Reset
- Memtest86 hang instant at Test 2
- HP UEFI Diagnostic wont find... -
What OS are you running these days? I am down to 3 Windows workstations and one Windows Server on my LAN, everything that doesn't have a windows-specific need has been moved to Linux. Printing abilities with my large document centers are Linux's kryptonite; the reason for 2 of the Windows machines. The third machine still has Win7 on it, and isn't connected to the outside world. It has tons of software on it I use for diagnostics and updating various hardwares.
