    Cellular signal bar scales

I have noticed on Windows Phone and Apple devices that the cellular signal bar scales have five bars while Android devices only have four, and I am curious why.
Fortunately, my automotive audio system has a five bar scale.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    Really? Mine has 8....
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

      pointless anyway,
is it showing strength, or BER??
because that second reference is the important one.

On the iPhone you can show the signal strength in dB I stead of bars.

again, not much use - you need to know the quality rather than strength.
the tuner can pull a signal from almost nothing, but if it's corrupted by noise then it's not much use.
a BitErrorRate percentage would be more usefull.

I know that too, that the BER is more useful for an RF junkie looking at a digital signal, but the signal strength is a simpler useful tool. Not everyone knows about BER what is actually represents and why it is important. However, signal strength understand everyone. At the end of the day, either it works or: “Whaaat? You’rebreaking Up on me!”

so your saying it's good to have a placebo-guage?
like the fake pull-out antenna's on early motorola handsets!!!

stj, your da hoot! I've had some good laughs with you! I remember the placebo antennas in various items, not only cell phones.

There's no standard for what those bars represent, see : https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile...ked-an-expert/

This may also be very informative (shows bar thresholds for iphone 4 ) : https://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/...one-4-review/2

                    by AstutePauciloquent
Hi everyone, over the past few months i have taken a deep dive into motherboard diagnostics and I love the challenge. Currently im trying to learn all about the signals that travel around the motherboard, such as frequencies, enable signals High and Low logic states etc. And i have been learning to read and using the Schematics for this board that i requested here on Badcaps forum, from a few months ago, this is such a great place for these.

I’ve been working on a GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 1.0) that does not post. This motherboard has been my main learning board. I would like share...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

                    Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                    Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

What is a normal composite signal range for a C64?
                    by Scruit
                    Hello all,

Working on my first C64 / Breadbin / 250407. Purchased as non-working. Getting black screen.

More detail below, but for those that want to get right to the question.... Here are a few waveforms comparing the Pin15 output on the VIC chip (luma/sync) to the pin 4 on the AV socket (composite signal).

                    https://imgur.com/gallery/PpqcqPY

My question is: Is the composite waveform range of 0.1v-1v too low for a c64?

                    More detail:

Symptoms are that that I get...

PS4 fat has inconsistent signal after HDMI replacement
                    by supravit2000
                    Hi, guys!

I am not a professional, all I can do is solder stuff on the boards, so I would really appreciate it if someone with knowledge shares his experience/thoughts on a problem I have with a PS4 console.

My friend gave me an original fat PS4, board model SAB-001, with WLOD, that has been previously opened. I changed the HDMI port, couple of pads on the board were ripped, which I connected to the corresponding caps/resistors? Just did so as in a shown diagram (one of the ground pads I ripped off and left it not connected). However, there was still no signal, so...
