I was an ass today and managed to plug an MMC card into the SD slot of my Toshiba P25 laptop.
It didn't detect the MMC card at all. I didn't realise that I plugged in an MMC card at the time until I ejected it and looked at the card carefully. I was in a panic frenzy at the time because I thought I killed the SD slot of my laptop.
I went and got an SD card out of my drawer and plugged it into the SD slot and it read fine, and wrote data fine as well.
My friend who passed me the MMC card didn't bother to tell me it was an MMC card as he thought all SD slots read MMC cards as he plugs his MMC card into the SD slot of his PC at home. I decided to give it a try on my PC and plugged in the MMC card into the SD slot and I was stunned to see it actually read the MMC card.
Now the MMC card and SD card are similar in shape, I think the MMC is a bit thinner though. It fitted in the slot and even locked itself in there like any SD card.
Now this is one mistake I won't repeat. The SD slot still reads my SD cards fine so should I be worrying about the thing being shorted and ruined?
I did not smell anything or see any smoke when I plugged the MMC card in and my laptop seems pretty normal as well.
So can someone confirm if an MMC card is really compatible with an SD slot for sure?
Thanks.
