HP lappy at it again

I got this laptop for free after the charger port broke about a year ago. A couple minutes of jamming a screwdriver into the back of the charger port, it was working, and has since.

Anywho, the other problem is windows would sometimes take years to start up. It would not read the hard drive, just sit there, and it was apparent when trying to start in safe mode. It would try to load a certain file, agp440 file. Eventually it starts in safe mode, and sometimes it starts in normal mode. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the install, the hard drive tests in HDtune to have no problems.

I flashed the bios to the newest, and that fixed it for a couple of days.

Its a HP Pavillion zd7020us, 2.8ghz p4, 512mb ddr-333, 80GB Hitachi, nvidia goforce 5600.

Just for kicks, check the Windows event viewer. Sometimes disk problems will show up there.

Try and get the manufacturers HD diagnostic application and run that on a surface test, or failing that, try Speedfan and see what the SMART settings say, as your probably getting sectors reallocating due to a fault on the drive.

agp440 is a red herring.
It's the last file that DOES load properly. (That's why you see it displayed.)
It's the file after it that's causing your problems.
The next one after varies but is most always networking related.
