    3G Ram and software

    Hi all,

my brother is working on a new Toshiba laptop and phoned me to have some explanations because he is facing some problem:

    1) Hiren's Boot CD (8.3) works on system with 3GB Ram?

    2) Acronis True Image 11 works without installing it on the system?

Till now I have never worked on system with more than 2GB Ram so I don't know if with 3GB Ram some software could have problem but seems that my brother is not able to use them on this Laptop due to large memory.

I use Acronis and Hiren's 9.5 without problem just booting the PC from CD drive.

Anyone here knows if this memory larger than 2GB can create problems with these tools?

I'm going to visit my brother and within 3 hours I will be able to give more details.

    Ciao

acronis you install on one pc and then run the "bootable rescue media builder" to make a boot cd to use on any pc

i doubt 3gb is making any issue with software.

      Hi willawake
you are right the 3GB is not a problem.

My brother was trying to make a system image for recovery and Acronis was unable to find any partition.
I entered the BIOS set up and I switched the SATA support from SATA AHCI to SATA compatibility.
In this way Acronis had no problem at all to see the HD partitions.

I was not able to run any application from Hiren's Boot CD because after choosing the application from menu, Hiren's was unable to install a working CD driver.

The Laptop is Toshiba Satellite A300.

I found the problem with SATA bios setting last month when I reinstalled an XP on a Compaq Presario C500, with SATA native support enable WindowsXP installation CD was unable to see the HD.

By the way, the first partiton in Toshiba HD was an unknown EISA partition, about 1.46GB, what is it?
I think it is something for system recovery but it is too small to contain a complete restore image for Vista.

        Re: 3G Ram and software

@ Gianni: the 1.46 GB isn't a Vista restore partition since the notebook is supplied with a recovery cd. It's full of programs copied by Toshiba Applications Installer after the restoration. Unless you want to get rid of it, do no touch that partition.

          Thanks zandrax

my brother left the partition like it was, he needed only to make a restore image. There's no sense to free 1.46GB on a 250GB HD, there's plenty of free space without risking to delete something that could be useful.

why use that crappy dossy crap hiren if you can make ubcd4win?
that way you boot to win, although yeah, it's slow....

i also had the same problem with hiren: it' can't even fuckin' have the cd driver recent systems need....

i should make a post on integrating acronis 11 to ubdc4win in VIP section of the forum...
if i do, zandrax can inform you about it...

                Thanks i4004

I have see UBCD4WIN some days ago and I had no time to give it a try.
It should be a good replacement for Hiren's since lately I had some problem to use it.
I don't know the right reason but I had problems with Hiren's and the CD Driver with 2 PC, I had to remove the HD and connect it to my PC to do some operation.
Yesterday the problem with Toshiba... it's getting annoying especially when you have not much time.

Now I download all stuff and I will try to create a working CD.

                Ciao
