    LeCroy 7200 HDD

This thread concerns a computer component (hard disk drive).
I remember reading that the LeCroy 7200 (not the 7200A/7200AM) oscilloscope which was introduced in 1989 had an ST506/412 HDD, but I wonder why it did not use a SCSI HDD (like in the Macintosh II), considering the former interface was on its way out at the time.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I don't understand why for something high end at the time, but one other thing: despite the IBM PS/2 line (with 1.44MB floppy drives as standard) being released in 1987, the LeCroy 7200 floppy drive only supported 720KB disks - I saw an Ando AQ-7902C from 1989 (the same year as the LeCroy) which had a 1.44MB floppy drive (MS-DOS format) - it appears the Japanese were a bit ahead of the others at the time.

a 1.44meg floppy drive need the data streamed twice as fast, maybe the controller was too old.
