I didn't think anyone patched MS OS's anymore. They've been untrustworthy since the win 8/8.1 days...

auto-updating now? how 'bout anything 'nix that doesn't force updates?
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

My computer doubles as a space heater.

        Permanently Retired Systems:
RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.

          nothing NIX forces updates.

infact NIX cant update even if you want it to without you entering your root password.

Does this mean that windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will be forced to update to windows 10?

no, it means they will force the spyware on you, and slow it down / destabilise it until you get so pissed off that you swap it for Linux or Win10

I didn't get the idea that it will be forced automatic... Just rolled up lump-sum mass updates. Idea being that instead of having 2^n (n= number of individual updates) different upgrade combinations to have to support, it's just the number of rollups issued. I'm sure the first one will be mandatory if you want support, but after that I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of rollups supported at once.

Not having individual choices does suck (especially with the more useless/quasi-spyware updates) but from a maintenace/support perspective it makes sense. Would you them rather drop all windows 7/8.1 support? Yeah they've "guaranteed" support until 2020 (for 7 at least, IDK on 8.1) but support on paper isn't support in practice.

nothing "quasi" about something that turns your microphone on and livestreams it back to base!

and lets not forget that bit where you plug-in a webcam and it grabs a frame and sends it home!

If it was doing that, you'd be right. In reality that's not actually what was happening:

                      http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows...metry-secrets/

(I'd quote it but the page format isn't well suited to such).

Does it send stuff that many find objectionable? Yeah. Can it be turned down to a safe level? Yes it can. Hence why I think "quasi" applies since it's not truly "spying" since one can shut it off within the program and that it's documented. Still a potential security risk for highly-secure systems though...

cortanna has no recognition code in it - if it did then it would be huge and slow your cpu right down.
all audio processing and word seperation and recognition is done by remote servers.
                        ( cloud spy's! )

and after the latest update - you cant turn it off completely.

but hey, not singling out M$, the Android / Apple FaceBook APP does exactly the same thing!!!

Which would be like leaving that truck of yours unlocked and full of expen$ive stuff in one of those "psychotic" parts of town. The "anti-individualist" progressives (towards commie-nizzim) wouldn't be the worst of it...

it's not paranoid if it's true.

btw, i do just use my computer - just not with the devil's o.s. or bogus aplications on it!
and as my net machine is a 32bit athlon, it pre-dates the ARM based spyware in the newer chipsets.
something that cant be blocked by any o.s.
