    psu and pci question

    Hey guys, I'm wondering if you could help me out. I've got an old no name psu powering a local server comp at home, and it's having some odd video problems. I switched the card with a spare, and it too does the same thing. Checked the rails they were fine, but when I used an oscilloscope, I noticed the p-p waveform was about 140ish mV (hope I don't offend any EE's or electricians with any improper terminology, I'm just a CE ). Would swapping caps improve the voltage regulation or is that controlled by some other piece of hardware?

    Also, on an unrelated note, for a pci device, can someone explain to me which of the um, 'pins', are the voltage inputs for 5v and 3.3v? Is that even how it works? For a reference, I just gis'ed this:

    Any input would be greatly appreciated

    PS. Wow that's a really cool emoticon!

    Google for PCI pinout, and you will get many references.

      caps terminology and technical terms used by some manufacturers
      by kazzek
      I came across some technical terms that are used to describe some capacitor types, mostly in the US. I was wondering what axialytic rabro and radialytic rabro mean? I can guess that axialytic is perhaps a combination of words axial and electrolytic. The same applies to radialytic. What does rabro mean?

      Schematic vs. Reality: Where Are the Resistors on My Sharp Clock Radio? Model FY-70CH
      by TinkerTron
      Hey everyone,

      I'm currently working on a mid-70s Sharp Electronic Digital Clock Radio, Model FY-70CH. I found the service manual online, printed it out, and have been studying it for a while. My main reasons for tackling this are: (1) I want to learn electronics and figured I'd start with something I had on hand, and (2) I want to fix its issues. Right now, the radio sounds awful, has about 5V DC at the speaker terminals, and the alarm time setting doesn't work. But I'm not asking how to fix these problems.

      Instead, here's what's been bugging me so far:
      The schematic...

      MSI B350m gaming pro motherboard
      by udonome
      Hi
      i need help to diagnose MSI B350m gaming pro motherboard.
      It does not have any display, no posting, no bios. After pressing power on, cpu fan starts and led on motherboard lights on.
      All the 4 debug led for cpu, gpu, memory, boot are lighting on also.
      I measured the voltages of all the choke on the board and the readings are as follows:
      Choke1 = 12.080 v
      Choke4 = 0.896 v
      Choke5 = 0.896 v
      Choke6 = 0.896 v
      Choke7 = 0.895 v
      Choke8 = 0.895 v
      Choke9 = 1.380 v
      Choke13 = 0.000 v (This seems improper)
      Choke14...

      Apple MacBook Pro Mid-2017 A1706 - C7490 Capacitor Help
      by afarr
      Hi all, this is my first post, I offered to check out a friends MacBook Pro, A1706 which doesn't power on, before this happened they smelt something burning inside, and Apple refused to help with out being out of warranty.

      Among investigating a capacitor on the logic board spilt and scorched surrounding area please refer to images; https://imgur.com/a/AmSwFr3

      I found a schematic (x362 MLB Schematic) for the logic board on a thread from this site, I'm unsure about the right terminology when describing so please forgive me.

      On the location I assume...

      Hi, I have an HP with AMD chipset that fail at power on with this caps lock led code error: five caps lock slow white led flash + 3 fast white led flash.

      I reprogrammed the BIOS IC with a file found on the net named "HP AMD FIXED.BIN" and the notebook turned on again but after a few minutes, about 15-20, the screen went black again and I had to force shut it down.

      The same led code error appears the next time it is switched on.

      After several minutes of being turned off, the notebook turns on again normally.

      Could it be a...
