    Beeping issues.

    I have a gigabyte ga-8n-sli here that has a long and interuptted beep when turned on. the graphics card has a bad cap, but even after I used my x300 in place, issue is still there. I tried reseating the ram and using different ram configs with no luck. the psu is a cooler master hipro one with teapos and is still ok so I doubt psu issues here. sometimes I can get it to post on the screen, but then loses signal and beeps. I can't figure what's wrong.... so I need some advice .

    thanks

    Re: Beeping issues.

    Sorry if the previous post looks like a mess.... it was 2AM at the time and I was on a PDA so I had some difficulty with the grammar etc.

    Anyway, the computer has the following:

    * Intel Pentium D 3.4Ghz
    * Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Motherboard
    * 2x 1GB sticks of Nanya brand DDRII 667MHz RAM
    * 320GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA HDD
    * LG DVD burner
    * A Generic Nvidia 7600GS 256MB graphics card
    * 380W Cooler Master PSU made by Hipro (still OK, with no bad caps)

    My friend bought it in yesterday saying that it was working the other day and then it just restarted and beeped at him and that was it. He bought it here and it worked for a minute or so before going into the beeping stage. In other words, after it finished POST, the screen just went blank and then continuously beeped. The beep is a strange one, it is continuous and uninterupted... and is only silenced when the PC is turned off. It's not a RAM beep because RAM beeps are continous interuppted beeps like 'Beep, beep, beep, beep...', but this beep is more like "BEEEEEEEE......P".
    I have tried a different graphics card already with absolutely no luck.... the 7600GS in that PC has a bad 1000uf 6.3V Evercon cap.
    I've reseated the RAM and tried different configs with the modules and still I have no luck.... just gives out the exact same beep.
    I don't klnow what exactly is wrong, but I think the motherboard may be dead or at the end of its life. The motherboard has Rubycon MBZ caps and none are bad. Everything is seated correctly from what I can see and feel. What could be wrong??

    Thanks.

      Re: Beeping issues.

      I checked out the manual for this board. There are two board versions, so I only checked version 1.0. The beep codes depend on the BIOS used:

      AMI BIOS Beep Codes
      *Computer gives 1 short beep when system boots successfully.
      *Except for beep code 8, these codes are always fatal.

      1 beep Refresh failure
      2 beeps Parity error
      3 beeps Base 64K memory failure
      4 beeps Timer not operational
      5 beeps Processor error
      6 beeps 8042 - gate A20 failure
      7 beeps Processor exception interrupt error
      8 beeps Display memory read/write failure
      9 beeps ROM checksum error
      10 beeps CMOS shutdown register read/write error
      11 beeps Cache memory bad

      AWARD BIOS Beep Codes
      1 short: System boots successfully
      2 short: CMOS setting error
      1 long 1 short: DRAM or M/B error
      1 long 2 short: Monitor or display card error
      1 long 3 short: Keyboard error
      1 long 9 short: BIOS ROM error
      Continuous long beeps: DRAM error
      Continuous short beeps: Power error

        Re: Beeping issues.

        I've tested the system with another good known working Delta Electronics 350W PSU with the same result. The Cooler Master one in there is still OK since it's still clean with no bad caps.

        But this is what I am going to do since my friend needs this PC for work ASAP. I am going to get a new motherboard and PSU by tomorrow. The reason I am getting a new PSU is beacuse it's an OEM unit and it's been used for a few years now.

        The motherboard I'll get will probably be the Asus P5N-SLI and as for the PSU, an Antec one.... dunno what model yet.

        Thanks.

          Re: Beeping issues.

          It looks like a DRAM error. Have you tried different RAM?

            Re: Beeping issues.

            I have tried some other good known working RAM and the thing still beeped. The owner has decided to buy a new motherboard and PSU himself. I told him to buy the Asus P5N-SLI and a Thermaltake TR2 PSU. I have used the TR2 series for many clients without a complaint so I feel it is good quality. Heck, I even use a Thermaltake 430W TR2 myself.

            Thanks.

              Re: Beeping issues.

              Just an update....

              In the end the owner decided to buy the Asus P5K-EPU motherboard, 2x 1GB Kingston DDRII 800Mhz sticks of RAM and a new Cooler Master iExtreme 550W PSU. I ended up recapping the Evercon caps on the 7600GS and now the new system seems to be working pretty well.

              Anyway, thanks for the tips guys.

                Do you have ANY machines that work right?

                  HP Z820 Workstation 4 beeps (sometimes)
                  by retrorepair2
                  I've got an issue with my Z820 that I'm having trouble working out the root cause of.

                  More often than not it'll turn onand fans will blast for a moment before stopping and I'll get 4 beeps that will repeat forever (at least the power light will keep flashing).

                  What I can't understand is sometimes it'll just work and I can use it all day but other times it'll boot then reboot then reboot and 4 beeps for the rest of the day. Sometimes it'll work fine from cold for hours, sometimes it'll do the 4 beeps from cold.

                  Another oddity is the fans. Before the 4 beeps...

                  Hofmann geodyna 6300 Wheel balancer
                  by Grouickman
                  Hi there,

                  First, I'm not sure it's the right section to post for this type of device, but could not think of something better.

                  Ok, so my son (a mechanic) bought a faulty Hofmann Geodyna 6300 wheel balancer (which appears to be mostly a re-branded Snap-on wheel balancer).

                  I'm looking for any resources (doc, manuals, schematics) that would be available for this device or anyone that would have any knowledge on this particular device (or its Snap-On equivalent).

                  I'm trying to diagnose the fault(s ?), but I can't find any schematic (appart from the...

                  ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 1 Short beep and 1 Short 3 Long beeps after five seconds
                  by xnRS
                  My asus board doing something strange, didn't saw anything like that before
                  I get 1 short beep on start... and after five secs i get 1 long and 3 short beeps.

                  Changing CPU, RAM and GPU didn't gave any results.

                  Dell Alienware 17 R1 / M17X R5 / LA-9331P REV 1.0 - 7 beeps
                  by zwect
                  I have this Alienware 17 laptop with the VAS00 LA-9331P REV 1.0 motherboard that does not turn on anything when power is plugged in and gives the 7 beep sequence, CPU / GPU does not heat up, i tried only with an I5 4200M (the laptop did not come with either the GPU or the CPU, but on the back says that it originally came with the Nvidia 860M and an 4710MQ).

                  While i do not know if there is any CPU blacklisting system on the motherboard, i tried reflashing the BIOS (at UH14) and the EC (at U2) accordingly but no changes either.
                  PCH doesn't seem to be shorted but i haven't done...

                  PS5 EDM-010 - Intermittently Power
                  by ronaldopdias
                  Hi everyone,

                  I received this PS5 for repair, and it’s been quite difficult to diagnose.
                  It beeps once and turns off. The power draw goes up to 100W, then drops back to 0.20W. However, if I keep trying to power it on, it eventually turns on and stays on. I can play games without any issues.

                  Once it's turned on, I can shut down and power back on normally.
                  But if I leave it off for an hour or so, it starts beeping again and shuts down—back to square one.

                  I couldn't find any shorts on the board.

                  The UART log shows the following:...
