Qustion regarding accessing routers and such

I got a friend who has a Linksys BEFSR11 router and to mess around with it, he just opens firefox and connects to IP 192.168.1.1.
Now the thing is that he wants a WAP54G and unless him and I are wrong, it too will also have its configuration access IP set as 192.168.1.1. and thus the IPs will conflict and we will not be able to access both the router and the access point when they are both attached to the network.
Hoping that someone else has past expertise on this, are you able to change the access address to something else and does this also apply to the WAP11 and the RTP300?
It would be nice to have the router on 912.168.1.1 and the access point on 192.168.1.2.

On my WAP54G, the default IP address is 192.168.1.245. This can be changed after you access the unit through that address (default password is admin, with no user). Don't forget to set the default gateway in the unit. I have mine set to the IP address of the modem/router unit from my internet provider. In the router, I assign 192.168.1.245 to the WAP54G by using the MAC address of it.

That works! (i assume that the first number should be '192' instead of '912')

I have a BEFSX41 (wired) setup at the router and a WRT54GL (wireless) setup as an access point. The wireless router is setup with IP address changed to 192.168.1.2, and the DHCP server is disabled.

It does wacky things to your network if you have two DHCP servers running at the same time.

The numbers that the wireless router connects with are provided by the BEFSX41. It connects the same way a PC might (IP: 192.168.1.2, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0)

DNS servers are the same as your router and are provided by your ISP. My wireless router seems to be able to auto-detect the correct numbers through the BEFSX41 (wired), but you can set them manually. They should appear on the status page of the router thats connected directly to your modem.

Since the DHCP server for the BEFSX41 (wired router) is setup to dish out IP addresses starting at 192.168.1.100 (...101, 102, etc), there is no conflict with the wireless router having an IP of 192.168.1.2.

What about connecting the router and your pc with a crossed cable? You can change every setting without any ip conflict.

If he uses the WAP54G as a remote access point, he has to run it as a Repeater. WEP, SSID, all have to be the same as the master router.

WAP54G only works as a repeater with a WRT54 series router, or another WAP54G access point. I have a client running the WAP54G as a repeater. Works great.

I was thinking of also buying a WAP11 but from what I hear the WAP54G has 802.11B support built right in along with 802.11G
