They say the same thing about cutting boards. Seems everything dirty gets compared to toilet seats.

Keyboards are safe to wash, but you have to be able to give them several days to dry afterwards.

Just don't try to put a Model M in the dishwasher. I got lazy and tried washing it that way, and the top cover got warped. I had a Microsoft Natural Keyboard in the same wash and it came out fine.

good job it wasnt this guys laptop......

A Japanese civil servant has been demoted for viewing pornographic websites more than 780,000 times during office hours over a nine-month period.

Kinokawa official Tomiko Waki says the man, an employee of the Kinokawa government in western Japan, visited porn sites from June last year to February 2008. He says that the man, whose name was withheld, accessed porn sites 170,000 times in July alone.

Despite his frequent porn viewing, none of his colleagues noticed his activities.

The man's superiors discovered his extensive porn site visits after his computer became infected with a virus, prompting officials to examine his web browser's history.

Along with the demotion, he received a $190 monthly pay cut.

                  Ewwww....

I'd be breaking out this stuff for that, along with the gloves:

Contains Perchloroethylene and Trichloroethylene. Even then, I'd probably go over it thoroughly with Lysol.

There's one of their stores down the street from me.

Are laptop keyboards interchangeable for testing purposes?
                        by AJ847.63e
                        Hi All,

Just wanted to ask for laptop keyboards are the pinouts standardized? Reason why I ask is we have a Lenovo S145 where the G,H,L,' and down arrow keys are not working. I've updated the bios, reinstalled the drivers, confirmed the issue persists in bios and all did nothing. I then disassembled the laptop and can see the fingers that slide into the board side connector all of them are pretty oxidized and two in particular look like they have broken connection.

We've got a stack of "new" laptop keyboards so I was hoping I could connect one of them to...

                        Cleaning keyboards
                        by Curious.George
Periodically (like every two years?) I gather up all of the keyboards from my machines and give them a thorough cleaning. It's a relatively mindless task that doesn't require much "focus" (I typically do it while watching a movie).

I recently did this for the ~dozen (identical) keyboards that I have in use, here. And, mentioned that to a friend ("So? What have you been up to??").
"Oh, I just take them into the pool with me. Then, set them on the deck to dry in the Sun..."

                        <gack>

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533QR keyboard replacement issues
                        by Zymymenestys
                        Hello Badcaps!

I recently got a job where the keyboard assembly of an Asus ROG Strix Scar G533QR was replaced from an Arabic keyboard to a nordic layout.

The original (arabic) part number is 0KNR0-4630AR00 and the replacement part number is 90NR0541-R31ND0.

The keyboard works well, lights and every button works, except the left shift.
In nordic keyboards there is a small shift and a < button, instead of a larger shift, which seems to be the only actual difference in the keyboards, except the legend.
Could this be an issue with the KBC/BIOS...

                        Yamaha Tyros strange keys issue
                        by daigs
Hi, I'm a technician as hobby, I repaired several yamaha keyboards in the keyboard unit (some key doesn't sound or sound too much, etc.).

I'm in trouble with a never seen case regarding a Yamaha tyros 2 61 keys. The problem is that all the couple the D# - A keys sound only the first time I press them. The second time I press them they don't sound anymore. The first time, they sound with a sustain too. The D# and A are on the same wires in the matrix scan as you can see from the attached schematics. I found a video in which the problem is as similar as in my case.
