    Onboard Audio

    I have just built a small PC to give away. I have already given it away actually, however I did not test absolutely everything. One notable thing I did not test is the audio quality.

    For some damn reason the onboard audio is producing a damn lot of background hiss. It does not matter upon the volume. What exactly happens is that when there is nothing playing, there is no noticeable amount of hiss (I am no audiophile ). However as soon as anything plays, there is a horrible background hiss that tends to mask most of the actual audio! What could be the possible culprits?

    The motherboard is a Biostar M7VIZ v7.1. This motherboard is using the C-Media CMI9739 chip. I have read one article on a forum that came to the conclusion that the issue may be caused by the driver.

    If this issue can not be resolved easily. I have a couple of PCI sound cards that I can fit in.
    * C-Media CMI8738 based sound card
    * Creative CT4810 based sound card

    My question is, which one would be better to use? I think the Creative one is a better card. However it is quite old and only has stereo sound. The C-Media based card supports surround sound and has a digital port.

      so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

      i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

      Hi All. I had a Roland KR-3500 Digital Piano (similar to the KR-4500) that exhibited a Crackling audio sound on all keys. After reading somewhere about someone with a similar issue who had replaced all the Electrolytic caps I decided to also go down that route. (Spoiler : It worked !) After some basic troubleshooting I determined that it could be noise feeding thru from the Keyboard scanning since the Demo tunes played back undistorted and the Audio amp / speakers were fine ( Inserted an Audio signal into the rear Audio input). After extracting the main board from the shield, I replaced 7 Capacitors...

      Dell Vostro 5490 - no sound, no audio device

      Hi, i've got problem with Dell Vostro 5490.
      Board - Mantis CML 18788-1

      Windows says "no audio device detected". The other functions work properly.

      What i've done:

      1. I checked motherboard

      2. I changed audio codec (ALC3204)

      3. I reflashed bios with clear ME

      4. Audio is enable in bios

      5. Both speakers are good

      6. After installing the drivers from the Dell website, the devices visible in the manager:
      - Audio for intel displays
      - Intel Smart Sound Technology...

      Motorola Minitor V pager no audio / sound repair

      Got a bunch of Motorola Minitor V pagers from Fire Departments here trying to fix some out of the non working ones. These pagers are known for either no sound / audio or they don’t charge. The internet is full of suggestions like metal shavings inside the speaker?
      Anyway so I took one of the Minitor’s apart for my amusement in order to see why that is and nobody can fix em. There are no service manuals or schematics for these that I know of. However… I did find the problem!

      On the main board of this unit where the speaker connects to there is a metal shield....

      HP 8470p - distorted sound and noise when playing audio

      Hello.
      I have an issue with HP 8470p - rather strange one.
      I have a noise and sound distortions on both internal speakers and external speakers, when I plug such into the 3.5mm audio jack.
      Seems like the noise is present especially when I play audio, where there are parts/sections where the volume of the actual recorded sound is low.
      Interestingly, when I play the windows sound test, everything seems to be almost okay. The sound/distortions are similar to when you have interference from some other piece of equipment nearby or when you have an audio receiver with bad amplifier...
