    Slowly getting back up

Well....got everything moved over the weekend. Last night I finally got the comp desk somewhat positioned. Started hooking up PCs. All the PCs came up except for the two Quad cores. They would turn on and then after a 10 seconds or so, they would shut down. The one had a loose HS. I tried to reinstall, but no luck yet. The newest one had the same behavior. The fan was slow so I put on the stock Intel HS. Still no luck. Then I got a wild hair and just sat the HS on the CPU without attaching it. Its been running just fine at 31°C for the last couple hours.

I wish there was a good HS/fan that worked right. I miss the old 370 assys. No fuss and they worked great.

    Crazy shit. Oh well.

Hopefully I should have everything running this weekend. Still have to do the work thing.....damn it.

Oh, two quad cores! So that explains it!

I hope you didn't fry the one with the loose heatsink. Bad juju...

        DID YA HEAR IT???????????

Did ya hear the loud POP?????

That would have been me getting my head out of my ass.

I did not apply the AS5 properly. After consulting the INSTRUCTIONS, I complied and guess what????? yep.....34°C and stable.....both of them.

I feel like such a dumbass. Maybe there is something bad about sniffing glue...

(before anyone thinks i sniff glue, i don't. but i do enjoy building plastic scale models and i don't always have the proper ventilation )

Don't worry stretchy, get a brunch of old boards (say socket 7 or slot 2): 40 of them can surely replace a modern quad core without suffering from overheating. I won't reccomend older boards because I'm having difficulties in getting a Boinc client for XTs: when I found it and an old 8 bit ethernet card, I'd fold with my trusty M240
Jokes apart, how did you manage to burn a cpu? Core 2 runs colder than Athlons and Prescotts, so overheating is rarely a striking issue unless you like overvolting.
DId the loose heatsink damaged the processor?

The loose HS didn't cause any damage.......I think.

After reapplying the AS5 and reinstalling the stock Intel HSs, idle temps are 34°C. However......when I fire up F@H, the newest QC only goes to 56°C. However, the other QC (that had the loose HS) went up to 82°C.

Once I get the other boys playing, I'll redo that one. The Intel stock HS doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. I do have a ZeroTherm HS here to throw in there to see if it makes a difference.
