I see the Vista logo in the lower right angle: do you seriously plan to use it?
There is a joke about its name in Italy: in italian, "vista" means both eyesight and view, "svista" an oversight, an error due to miscalculation or lack of attention.
So, Vista is often referred as (S)Vista, the biggest error Microsoft could ever do.

          Re: HP 2510p 12.1" ultraportable

its not the vista thats the problem but the time taken to image the drives and then create a restore point, create recovery disks. uuuuuh fucking hours....like the battery was fully charged before i had even got to use the computer.

i never understand that because it takes no more than 30 mins to image a drive using ghost.

i am kinda dissapointed with the screen. the colours are too blue, i have tried messing but not good enough yet (gma driver is quite poor). the brightness is not that bad but the contrast could be much better. maybe i will get one of those calibration devices finally. i could never do photo editing on this screen but anyway that wasnt what the device was for. maybe later versions of led backlighting will be better.

still it could be worse, the usability could be awful because of the size, but its not its rather good indeed.

Yep: lack of a Dvi port and the unappaling screen are two serous drawback if you want to use it as your portable workstation. What a pity.

Serial killer, are you a warranty unsealer? Be carefull.

                      diet maybe?

thats the thing with this machine, the ergonomics are great. i can touch type immediately. the lack of dvi is not a problem as this will only be used off base and not a home workstation, the docking station provides dvi i believe.

The lack of express card is interesting cos it means i can borrow the company vodafone connect card. But now i see they have express card ssd already from transcend at 16mb which is 89 euro. I am sure it is the slow stuff though. But still if they had 32gb at less than double the price it would be quite interesting. If they finally get HDD SSD down to a reasonable price that would be really cool and i would not worry about using the notebook in the car on bumpy roads.

isaw the eeepc in real life and was in my hands (a friend of mine has it). Man it is so tiny!

Very responsive for the power it has under the bonnet.

things seem to be going in the right direction.
after this e-readers will be looking like a bad joke.
as i'm looking for something light to read stuff on(and surf the web if possible).

eee's 800x480 pixels screen would probably mean a lot of scrolling.
1024x600 of these small things would be beter.
keybaord is not really something i would need that often for reading only. also, on-screen keybaords would suffice(i used ipaq'a on screen kb and it's usable, even though ipaq has much, much smaller screen).
and no, i don't expect these to have a lcd display good enough to watch movies on(even most laptops don't have it..hell..most lcds are still not for it) but for reading they'll be excellent.

essentially, i would prefer something of an A4 size that's as light as possible.."slates" it seems they're called
                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tablet_PC
like the compaq table on that pic but without keyboard.

i have a laptop, but i would like a book with internet in it.

Willa, strip XP as little as possible: 4 GB aren't much with a standard XP installation, because Windows uses about 3 GB for itsself. A nlited XP, instead, can be stripped down into 1 GB more or less, leaving 3 GB for programs.
