Best charge level for storing batteries?

I just got in a few new batteries for the Latitude C series. They are new manufacture fron Dell, Dated 2007.6.1

They got here with one light lit on the battery meter. Is this the best way to store them, or should I give 'em a full charge? I don't know how long they'll be stored.

Storage at about 70% is optimal.
Keeping Li-Ion batteries fully charged all the time can be fatal, depending on the charging circuit the manufacturer uses.
Some charger ICs have a shutoff voltage of 4.4V or even more. I have no idea what's going on in some people's heads... anything above 4.2V seriously decreases the battery lifetime.
Even 4.3V cause a Li-Ion cell to fail after 500 instead of 1000 cycles.
It's all about the money I guess.

If they are Lithium-ion then the recommendations I've seen suggest to charge to about 3/4, and store them cool, somewhere like a fridge, recharging them every 6 months or so.

However, have a read of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery, especially the part about disadvantages.

thanks for the wiki link. I've decided to charge them to 50%, then store them in the fridge.

if you go to notebookreview.com's forum, they have this one post on optimizing the battery and how to charge it, etc. see these threads:

Fixing the Charge Circuit of the Batteries of the DC Motor
            by Astonished
            Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.

troubleshooting microsoft surface pro 4 no power no led charge light
            by ipatch
hello, i have been sitting on some microsoft surface pro 4 tablets for a while now. i was originally tasked with replacing the battery in one of the tablets, and ended breaking the screen and logic board in the process. decided to buy another tablet with the same specs. got that screen off successfully of the second tablet. the logic board appeared good, but i guess i shorted something out in the installation process of the logic which i've read is a common issue if there is no barrier between the logic board and battery pins. all that said, i ate costs of the repair and have...

Acer a515-43 low battery charge voltage

            Hi

            Acer A515-43
            LA-H801P

Fail: Does not charge battery, has low voltaje on connector.

Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.

I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...

I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.

Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know...

HP Laptop TPN-C125 replacement batteries will not charge after 12 months
            by dicky96
I got four replacement batteries for these HP laptops about a year ago. The originals would not charge, and these replacements have now gone the same way.

I'm not sure what the expected life of a laptop battery is but I woud have thought they would last longer than that

I now need to order four more batteries. Possibly these replacement ones were now good? The owner does not mind paying a bit more for originals or good compatible batteries that last longer

The top one is the original

            Any ideas?
            Cheers...

How can I charge that battery pack?
            by razenxd
            Hello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.

Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...
