    Athlon 64 3200+ Pin missing

I have a processor with one pin missing. The pin is not in the socket from which it was pulled.

Seems like a difficult job in the second row from the outside edge.

Has anybody attempted or achieved any success replacing a pin. It looks like it was attached with solder.

Re: Athlon 64 3200+ Pin missing

sounds like micro surgery to me
      I guess its possible
I suppose it will really depend on how well the solder will take to the metal and how well you can get the solder to sit without interference.
lastly how temp of cpu may affect it

forum threads I found on it

      http://www.thetechboard.com/showthread.php?t=159

      http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.c...388153&page=12

could find no links on an actual procedure..from a quick search..more just asking the same question.

      Hummm thinking about it
if it was a true gold plate on the pins maybe jewelers soldering techniques might be more applicable.
(they mention gold wire in the first link)

interesting problem but not an uncommon one
Sorry Davmax not much help on this one.

oh yeah and pin sounds like one you might actually need

Re: Athlon 64 3200+ Pin missing

Have solved the problem. I inserted a gold plated transistor lead into the socket and cut it off so that in protuded enough with a sharp end so that it imbedded into the solder that attached the original pin. The original pin had simply become detached from its solder, it had not been broken off. Possibly rare.

        Thanks for the effort Starfury.

Re: Athlon 64 3200+ Pin missing

          so its not soldered?
just relying on pressure to keep contact
I think that sounds safer way to do it ..just got to hope contact remains reliable.
I think it probably will thought.

yeah apparently broken off pins seems to be somewhat common issue common

Good work mate another save from the scrap heap

          cheers

Re: Athlon 64 3200+ Pin missing

Yes the pressure is solid , a bit like the modern Intel chips with pressure contact.

Based on this experience if a pin is broken the best procedure would be to heat it with the fine tip of a soldering iron and remove the rest of the pin. Then the pressure pin method can be applied on the solder pad. It is necessary to remove the pin so that the new pressure pin protrudes above the socket by about 1mm and does not disappear inside the socket.

Steam Deck: how to solder 3 pin POWER BUTTON with one missing (ripped-off) solder pad?
              by Jim Farid

The middle pad (B) on my steam deck's power button got ripped off. I want to bridge the middle pin to a via or another pad but don't know which one. Do you guys know any?

The pads with the stars are all ground.

In case there's no pad I can bridge to, do you know how to turn my deck on without using the power button? Thanks a lot 🙏....

Best way to solder LVDS connector for beginner (and qfn) ?
              by corrize
Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).

              820-02020 PPBUS_AON missing
              by ugamazing
Board had no history of liquid; unsure of drop history, but no signs of damage of any kind worth noting.

Charger sitting at 5v/0a. PPBUS is at 1.9v-0.9v steady cycle (peaks, drains, loops). Confirmed CHGR_EN_MVR is missing, but DCIN was reaching ISL just fine, so replaced ISL--no change at all. Confirmed pp3v8_aon is also missing--and being unsure *exactly* which signal appears first (or if they are simultaneous), I inspected PMU/U8100 area and found no shorts, but also found PP3V8_AON_MPMU_ISNS_VIN missing (not shorted). Replaced U8100 just in case (have had them fail in weird ways),...

Apple NVIDIA AGP GeForce 6800 GT Dual Link DVI+DVI outputs 603-6338 missing caps!
              by jpreza
              Hi everyone,

I recently acquired this card from a seller who was selling a PowerMac G5 for parts. He mentioned that the video card was probably broken too.

Upon closer inspection, I can tell the reason why it won't work: it's missing a bunch of CAPS! (it's also missing an inductor - 1.0uH).

It's a nice card as it's one of the few AGP cards that will support 2560 x 1600 resolution on a PowerMac G5 using a 30" Cinema Display.

Looking at the card, it appears to be missing the following:

              1x 1.0uH inductor - orange square
              2x...

Friend messed up my laptop motherboard while working on my bench
              by Geeker007
              Hi All,

So my friend was visiting and he wanted to use my solder bench to solder on some WLED circuit board. My laptop was open on the side for RAM upgrade. I know my mistake.

So while soldering he had too much solder on the soldering iron tip and he just shook off the soldering iron on the table itself to remove extra solder on the soldering tip and it landed on the motherboard of laptop. He then out of fear tried to remove it using solder wick and did more damage by removing some components as well. So here I am with weird situation.

              I have not tried putting...
