it probably started a countdown timer to just stop working eventually.
it was registered to the serialnumber in the bios of the original laptop.

There's a way to get rid of that but it can't be discussed here, but I've used "non genuine" Windows like that in a test computer for a while and it hasn't stopped working. It just displays annoying messages and won't upgrade obviously, and it seems slower but it might be an illusion. In my case I don't care as I just use this computer for benchmarks and it's not connected to the internet.

If you are not using the previous computer you took the HDD from just enter the key on the COA sticker. If it tells you it cannot be activated use the automated phone system(pretty easy).
In most cases the key on the COA has never been used. Manufacturers use their own key when they load the HDD. Try running Belarc Advisor on an OEM system and compare the key listed to the one on the COA.

Also, the OS will not stop functioning. Some features will be disabled though like desktop background and other things that don't necessarily prevent the OS from working.

                    Win7 Emulation in Linux
                    by Hondaman
If I install Win7 in VirtualBox or KVM, will Windows be tied to that exact hardware? Can I take the VM and move it to another machine at some point without having to re-activate Win7?

I bought a replacement board identical to the one Win7 is licensed on. But of course it failed. I have two more identical boards in my basement. Running out of acceptable hardware will not happen for quite a few years, hopefully.

But I am looking forward to that day when I cannot find any hardware, and I have to use emulation. Does anyone have experience with this?

                    win7 home iso? can I get 10?
                    by eccerr0r
Well I think that I have a GTX660Ti that's dead but I think I should give it one last try with its original OS and drivers: win7 home premium. While I can't stomach using win* of any type (I'm 100% Linux these days) I think I have to give benefit of the doubt to drivers, etc.

So... I have the original CoA for Win7 home premium and it's an OEM license. And I have the whole computer that the GTX660Ti came in (it was reportedly working too), minus the original hard drive, what could I download and run the machine temporarily to verify the GTX660Ti works with Windows or not?

latitude e5550 - no charge- all battery not recognized as genuine
                    by sdinelli
-latitude e5550 all batteries sense as non genuine(ive tried two working genuine and two new non genuine).
-battery led flashing white and amber which indicated non genuine AC adapter. tried multiple bios.
                    -ive tried multiple genuine chargers
-the circuitry seems to be working fine and battery and charging seems to be controlled by EU2 which is ECE5048-LZY

Dell Latitude 5570 indicates "No Genuine Dell battery"
                    by Andreasbest
                    Hello!
I have 2x Dell Latitude 5570, both came without batteries and cables, so i bought 2x cables (from China) and decide to use them with 2 batteries i already own from other laptops, one genuine Dell and one OEM (Green Cell).
In my surprise i noticed that both laptops indicating both batteries as "No Genuine Dell Battery", i'm out of ideas as i have never faced similar problem before.
Is there any chance the chinese cables to cause the problem?
                    How can i test them?

                    Thank you in advance!
