I was wondering has anyone here used both the Pentium 4 P4C Northwood 3.2Ghz 800Mhz FSB 512K cache and the P4E Prescott 3.2Ghz 800Mhz FSB 1MB cache? From what I read, the former is faster because it has less instruction pipelines but lacks SSE3 while the later is slower because it has more instruction pipelines but has SSE3.

I have used both and depending on what is being tested aside from clock speed either one could be faster than the other by a tiny bit. Overclocked on the other hand you may see a tad bigger difference in speeds but not enough to talk about really. -

Interesting. It seems in reviews atleast this one: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/69...xtreme-edition, the P4C is faster than the P4E in benchmarks, which one can overclock higher anyways. This was what someone else said when I did a search on google:
"I own both prescotts and northwoods.. personally I've done benchmarks between them and the Northwoods clearly outperform the prescotts in gaming.
They're also up to 30c cooler and use a lot less power.
Hyperthreading is integrated better into the prescotts which actually slows them down a lot, whereas the northwood was designed for single threads which gives it a lot more raw power. =)"Comment

stj, that doesn't really tell much as it's basically what Intel says but not real world performance which is the opposite.
As for power consumption and performance, I know the D0 stepping and SL7E5 for the P4E 3.2Ghz Prescott is 89W and not the 103W. The SL6WG P4C 3.2Ghz D1 stepping is 82W. It's the Prescott SL79M/SL7B8/SL7PN that were 103W.Comment

by jhead22A while ago I was able to save a super socket 7 board from the landfill. It is a MSI MS5169 ver 2.1 with an Alladin V chipset. There is 512KB L2 cache onboard and the board has Chhsi caps. I tested the board with different AMD K6-2 processors and different PC133 memory modules. The board is equipped with the latest BIOS version.
The board is completely stable on 66FBS with the cache enabled. At 100fsb the board is only stable with the cache memory disabled. No memory errors. With the cache enabled at 100fsb I get errors in Memtest 86+ 4.xx and 5.xx
