ideas and help for first time server.

Hello, I was thinking about building a cheap server but I have some questions more so on the software then the hardware.the board I was planing to use is a DG31 something cheap intel board with a pentium e2180 and 2gb, however it does not have raid.

I was planing on using FreeNAS and heard that it can do a software raid as i have two identical Hitachi 160gb disks, next I would like to keep it in the garage so I was wondering if I installed a wireless adapter could my server sleep and be woken up from the wifi adapter?

    any comments, ideas appreciated.

What are you intending to use the server for ? and unless you have ac wireless the gigabit port on that motherboard will be much faster and more consistent. There are wireless adapters that support WoWLAN but they are built into the motherboard and don't use the pci bus.

mainly just want to use it as a sharepoint so guests could copy their movies to it and then i could pull them to my various computers etc.

What wireless do you have ? I think it's going to be a bottleneck if you are then sending it to other computers.

You want nothing less than gigabit copper for that...

That reminds me of transferring stuff between my computers. I had 30GB to transfer and glad that I had Gbit Ethernet else I'd be waiting and waiting for it to transfer...especially with interference from neighbors, etc.

Gaming Laptop Zephyrus S17 TFT not detected every time !
              by titomno2
              Hi guys,
I post my problem here because I think it could be a capacitor related issue (Asus support on this particular subject is non-existing).
So the computer is a Zephyrus-S17-GX735LXS-26T and the strange behavior is seen.
On cold start most of the time the internal screen is detected and a picture it works fine until shutdown, sleep or deep sleep.
Then the screen won't work for a long period of time.
If I wait 1 or 2 hours it work again most of the time.
When it doesn't work the batterie indicator blink 3 times white stop and the same schematic is repeated...

Drive SMART status not showing up through RAID controller?
              by canadaboy25
              Hey guys,

I have an Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 motherboard with AMD RAIDXpert. I set up a 1000GB RAID1 array on it. This was about 8 years ago. Every once in a while, a power outage or something would knock one drive offline and degrade the array. After a reboot the drive would be back online and it would rebuild just fine.

Recently, a drive dropped offline and the array became degraded. I figured it was no big deal and rebooted then set it to rebuild overnight. The next morning I took a look and both drives had dropped offline at 70% rebuild. Uh oh.

              I rebooted...

Adding a clock battery to action camera to retain date&time when changing batteries Campark X25
              by flat-earther
I have a cheap action camera with an annoying trait, every time I change batteries the date & time gets reset and I have to set it again.

To solve this problem I want to add a small internal battery inside it which will keep supplying power to the camera for a while while I change batteries so the date & time is retained.

I have opened the camera and I think there is enough room to add something inside to accomplish this:

The camera is powered by a 3.7V nominal single cell lithium ion battery.
So I need to connect another battery in...

I thinking about some central LAN file server, on where I can put some files from other devices, or access to them, and maybe play some movie without download...

I never study this, but when I see that freenas need few gigabyte of ram to recommended working, some wiered partition, I wonder if I miss somewhat in the midletime...
